We really have got the 1960s to thank when it comes to the marked increase in celluloid imaginings of near and far futuresâ¦from Farenheit 451 and Alphaville to Zardoz , Planet Of The Apes and Loganâs Run utopias and dystopias inhabited by Nehru collared hipsters, mini skirted birds.and monkeysâ¦.! (www.cinedelica.....uturistic/)

I used to own this Dave Clark Five vehicle on VHS and in truth, it's certainly not the worst of the bunch. Directed by John Boorman (yes, the man behind Deliverance and the wonderfully insane Zardoz ), it's the story of the pressures of show business in this case, the face of Britain's Meat Marketing Board, played by Barbara Ferris. (www.cinedelica.com....in_movies/)

Just maybeâ¦.Iike myself, you have probably watched Kubrickâs A Clockwork Orange (1971) andâ¦.an outside chance hereâ¦you may have seen Boormanâs nutty-as-a-fruitcake Zardoz (1974). Perhaps joining these two in the little-subscribed-to ouvre of British Wacked Out Future Shockers is Robert Fuest âs The Final Programme . I say âperhapsâ because I ainât seen itâ¦.yet! Need inspiration? Check out Sci-Fi Baby Names: 500 Out-of-This-World Baby Names from Anakin to Zardoz . Written by (presumabluy uber-geek) Robert Schnakenberg, author of The Encyclopedia Shatnerica (everything you wanted to know about Bill Shatner, and some stuff you wish you hadn't learned), the book groups names into categories such as Power Names, Intellectual Names and so on, you're sure to have an easy time of it. Your only challenge will be to survive Grandma's wrath. (blog.wired.com....d/2007/11/)

Curriculum Vitae: Director John Boorman loves Arthurian stories and inserts their narrative arcs into many of his movies (see " Point Blank ," " Zardoz ," " Beyond Rangoon " and " The General "). For Boorman, Merlin Nicol Williamson incarnates the imaginative, ameliorative power of the artist. Marrying nature and artifice, Merlin 's cloaked in thick, ravelly robes woven of something like dark grass and wears a shining skullcap that seems to reflect both the dreams and nightmares of his genius. Half god, half prankster, he manipulates metaphysical weather and directs his cast of mythic characters - always "writing" humankind closer and closer toward civilization. He chafes at the lust that drives his heroes into disaster , delights in young Arthur's improvisations ("I never saw that!"), but feeds the boy his lines when necessary. But there&s a lot of great lines to go with the wacky visuals too, asthe inanities of style and substance start to go hand in hand (i.e. thecops just seem to know without much evidence that Johnny Blaze isresponsible for the first set of crimes when he becomes Ghost Rider thefirst time, or when Ghost Rider rides up the side of a building). Andby the end, my friends and I couldn&t help ourselves, and wentfull-blown into what had already been happening for a while watchingthe flick- we became like the characters of Mystery Science Theater3000, making wisecracks at every turn when not busting a gut overBentley&s turn into being Legion. We are MANY! . The material justlends itself completely to that kind of deconstruction, yet that&s whatends up making it not a complete waste of celluloid at the same time.Well, some would argue it is a waste, and they might not be wrong, butwhat a waste! It&s probably up there in the ranks of the mostshamelessly entertaining train-wreck Hollywood spectacles, right upthere with the likes of Howard the Duck and Zardoz (www.imdb.com/title/tt0259324/)

Charlotte Rampling must have been so bored with her character in thisproduction that she went full tilt the next year after this picture wasreleased into one of cinema's most confusing epics, 1975's Zardoz , justfor the challenge. Well, at least she got a good tan on location in thismovie, and photographs here better than in any other film she has starredin. Alas, poor Charlotte appears to be so much smarter than the materialshe is given in this hamhanded cat-and-mouse yarn, shot entirely in thequaint environs of Provence, France . She smiles alot, and behind that grinshe seems to be saying Please call it a wrap so I can drive over toMarseilles for a wild night on the town . (us.imdb.com/title/tt0071278/)

This obscure French /Japanese movie is directed by veteran maverickNagisa Oshima, who probably should recognized for &The Realm of theSenses&, &Tomb of the Sun& and &The Ceremony&, and co-written byJean-Claude Carrière, the writer of &The Tin Drum& and a handful ofLuis Bunuel&s movies. With such a duo it should be possible to expect alittle of anything in &Max My Love &, and this black comedy is certainlyoutstanding from most other movies I have seen. If I should compare&Max My Love & with anything it could be &Nekromantik&, &Possession & or&Dead Ringers &. Charlotte Rampling (&Zardoz &, &The Night Porter&, &Orca:The Killer Whale&) stars as a bored ambassador wife Margaret, whose oldman Peter(Anthony Higgins) mistakes for having an affair! Now thisbastard is actually cheating with a colleague himself, yet he stillhire a detective to uncover his wife&s secret. Would he possible haveexpected that Margaret lives out a relationship with a chimpanzee namedMax?! Yeah, I know what you might be thinking now, but besides that theactress Sabine Haudepin goes topless in one scene, &Max My Love & is avery clean, sleaze-less and not by any means exploitive movie! Aftersome arguments Peter agrees that Max can live in their apartment wherehe slowly turns the whole household over the edge ! Margaret is calm allthe way, while Peter turns into a loose cannon, who in one scene triesto finish off Max with his shotgun, and in another hilarious part triesto pull a hooker on him! &Max My Love & analyze subjects like tolerance, jealousy and the criteria for a relationship in a very wideperspective (us.imdb.com/title/tt0091498/)

Back in 1974, critics around the world mercilessly pummeled controversial director John Boorman57;s unique science-fiction opus Zardoz â deriding it as pretentious, as unintelligible, as ludicrously over the top . Yet this outing deserves some serious reconsideration. My own conviction , after a recent viewing of Twentieth Century-Fox57;s 2000 DVD release, is that it marks the case of a film with fascinating thematic tropes and narrative structure, and strong central performances from a game cast â but that these assets are collectively obscured by the picture57;s miniscule budget and some of the most garish production design in memory. That doesn57;t qualify it as an unjustly maligned masterpiece, but it does make the picture well worth a second glance in 33-year hindsight and potentially frees it from some of the charges levied against it. This sucker was sealed, can you believe it? Such luck! On top of that, it's a gatefold. Clearly, this was the will of God, for me to part with five bucks, and for this 34 year old album to become a part of my home. My cat inspected it, and immediately sneezed on it. You know there's nothing cuter than a cat sneeze? Well, maybe a kitten sneeze. Speaking of cats, this album has a very interesting way of showing musician credits on each song. You see, each musician gets their own piece of animal clip art symbol. So the lyrics to each song are surrounded by little animal pictures that tell you who played on what song, if you simply cross reference the picture with the legend . That's not crazy at all! Jerry's inner archivist shines here, with background information about every song just in case you were wondering how he comes up with this stuff. According to the liner notes, the cover was painted from the artist's personal experience, which if I may venture a guess, was taking acid while watching a double feature of Zardoz and The Last Temptation Of Christ (recordrobot.blogspot.com....chive.html)

Drawn by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian (although some sources credit drummer Charlie Benante) in 1985, Sargeant D graced the cover of "Speak English or Die," the debut S.O.D. album for Roadrunner. With titles like "Kill Yourself," "Pre-Menstrual Princess Blues," and "Fist Banging Mania," it was all, in the words of Friend from " Zardoz ," "just a joke" although their 24-second magnum opus "F*ck The Middle East" still hits like a smart-bomb, timely as ever. Purportedly, Ian drew the good Sargeant as the epitome of to strangle a phrase life after hate. If he were drawn today, two decades later, how intense might that hatred be? Twenty years can be a long time. A new album was announced for 2005 and might just come out before the Mayans kill us all. The Not Man and Sargeant D will celebrate with beers (pictograms.blogspot.com....chive.html)
