In the case of Watership Down , after the big (and bloody) fight with the General , they fast forward over all of that safe time and show Hazel and friends safe for about a minute. Then the Black Rabbit of Death comes to take Hazel away (blogs.sun.com....tags/books)
While there is a distrubing level of violence (see below) in Watership Down , there is little horror. Probably the scariest part of the movie is when the rabbits come upon the first warren that they think may be their new permanent settlement . The warren is populated entirely by old, stuffy rabbits. There are no kits, and no does, but plenty of food mysteriously left for the rabbits by humans. As it turns out the place is a trap to capture rabbits for food. This scene is very spooky, and when Bigwig is caught in a snare, there is blood coming out of his mouth. If your geekling is too young for blood, then they are definitely too young for Watership Down (feeds.wired.com/wiredgeekdad)
This is where Watership Down gets into some fairly sketchy territory for what is ostensibly a kids cartoon. This is why I saved it for last. The rabbits are violent with one another to the point of drawing blood, and even killing one another. In addition, other animals get in on the rabbit slayin (feeds.wired.com/wiredgeekdad)

As to the title: might we leave anything to the imagination? Whatever happened to subtlety, understatement, metaphor ? Can we try to entice our readers with a hint of mystery, a soupçon of suspense? A well-chosen title can be quite a draw. I mean, would anyone have read Watership Down if it were called The Internecine Warring of a Bunch of Rabbits (www.judgeabook.blogspot.com/)
Want to find out for yourself why Juliet thinks Carrie is a good book club choice? How about why Sawyer keeps picking up Watership Down ? Or maybe you're ready to think deep thoughts about the universe with Stephen Hawkin's A Brief History of Time (www.stationzer0.com/2007/04/)
A couple of months ago, whilst travelling in New Zealand after visiting Lynne & Steve , I picked up a copy of Watership Down and proceeded to torment Phil with its lessions for the church as I read it over the following days (www.signposts.org.au/2005/03/)
The book is about as different from Watership Down as you could imagine, whilst retaining the same mystic narrative that is at once both an entertaining read and deeply challenging and thought provoking. If you ever get a chance to pick up this book in a second hand store or whatever, I highly recommend it (www.signposts.org.au/2005/03/)
