But this year, no such luck. Yes, Microsoft had a series of titles on display for its Games for Windows booth. Among them were Space Siege, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Frontlines: Fuel of War. Mike Capps must have something on the ball-he's Epic Games' President, after all-but he's not immune to a mistake or two, like suggesting that the multiplayer be cut from Gears of War (blog.wired.com/games/2007/10/)

Well, they've finally admitted it. Cliffy B took to the stage at GDC yesterday and told the masses that Gears of War 2 is on the way. It's an Xbox 360 exclusive and it'll be out in November. Little else was said, although the above teaser trailer was made available. (blogs.guardian.co.uk....t_gdc.html)

I did enjoy gears of war, the noise and the mess etc but it was much too short. I was expecting another ten or so chapters after killing the final boss but it just finished abruptly. It they work on the length I'll probable get it (blogs.guardian.co.uk....t_gdc.html)

Out of curiosity, what would you considered to be the most prevalent flaws in Gears of War? I can't think of a better third person shooter. How i wished Mass Effect had the fluent, satisfying combat of Gears. It doesn't and it is gathering dust because the combat is so frustratin (blogs.guardian.co.uk....t_gdc.html)

You've just proven my point the fact that the streets are infiltrated with guns is just another example of how wrong it is in this country that guns are so available. We spend millions on the "war on drugs" yet nothing to get weapons off the streets (www.switched.com....shootings/)

As for PS3 vs 360, I'd have thought it was a no brainer now that the PS3 has come down in price, and possibly more importantly now that Blu-ray has won the format war. Got to be PS3, surely (blogs.guardian.co.uk....s_360.html)

It's a title that has brought the series into the modern day in every sense and is bound to have a dramatic effect on the next generation of console skirmishes. In videogame terms CoD 4 really does rewrite the old book on war. Read more (www.testfreaks.com....n-warfare/)

THQ's Titan Quest is an action-heavy role-playing game (RPG) that fuses ancient Greek and Egyptian history with mythological beasts. To face the reality of well organized, decentralized, self-perpetuating sources of terror, we need to think differently about the challenges. If indeed this is a new war it will not be won with a traditional military plan. The key does not lie in finding and destroying territories, camps, and certainl (search.bnet.com....ivity.html)

Just tried the training level 35 on Story mode in AWDC. Very hard with fog of war and the enemy having about 5 megatanks. If anyone would like a game at the weekend, my friend code is 455390-900980 (blogs.guardian.co.uk....riday.html)

In a time of war, many are those whose story is never heard. In WWII the skies were, for the first time, a major battle-front. Many brave young people gave their lives, flying in tin cans filled with explosives and ammunition. This game is dedicated to the men and women (updates.zdnet.com....ology.html)

Either Total War or Civ. Each release has been better than the last and is almost infinitely replayable. Warcraft is also a contender as WoW gives you so much to do it would be hard to get bored. However I don't think you had MMORPG's in mind (blogs.guardian.co.uk....esday.html)

Ah I must have missed that fact. It puts a different slant on things. The pro is that I'd have the toughest character on my server the con is that I'd be all alone. I guess if where only talking solo gaming then I'm back to Total War and Civ with TW just edging it (blogs.guardian.co.uk....esday.html)

This real-time strategy game takes you once again to 1944-45 and the European battlefields of the Second World War. @Charlie Wilson's War: "Jailbait". Genius. I was really surprised by that film. Expected it to be just average, but Philip Seymour Hoffman and Hanks were absolutely fantastic (blogs.guardian.co.uk....esday.html)

One query, that some of the wise old owls on this blog may be able to shed light on on the cover of the game it mentions Sweet child of Mine and War Pigs. I have completed the career on Easy, are there more songs to unlock on harder careers, or are these downloadable (blogs.guardian.co.uk....rsday.html)

On another note what a load of bollocks due on the DS for the rest of the year. At least the PSP still has God of War, Oblivion , LocoRoco2, Everybody's Golf 2, FF: Crisis Core. Nothing on the DS has me excited. *Grump (blogs.guardian.co.uk....esday.html)

I got stuck on this. No real strategy other than speed. Get yourself half way up the map (both on the perimeter and inside the pipe near your base) quickly and simply hold position whilst you build up a force. It's a war of attrition (blogs.guardian.co.uk....esday.html)

Still really enjoying Guitar Hero 2. Unlocked some of the encores now love War Pigs and Sweet Child, but I am simply not doing them justice, and this is just on moderate (blogs.guardian.co.uk....onday.html)

Yes. James Blunt. Was a great night, I went with the missus and her mother. There was a lot of anti-war videos during some of his songs [Kosovo etc.] and he was a really funny guy (blogs.guardian.co.uk....onday.html)

Ready At Dawn, the game 's developer, has outdone itself with the gameplay. The balance between puzzle solving and action is on the money. One part of the opening stage requires Kratos to get through two doors. He can drag a crate over to a switch to open the first door, but the second switch needs a weighted object to activate it. A dead body will do the trick, but Kratos must first take care of an onslaught of soldiers. Another good example reverts back to the Cliffs of Marathon, with Kratos needing a lighted object to clear the fog as he also battles incoming enemies. It's finely tuned, just like the console God of War games . (www.gamedaily.com....f-olympus/)

I have already reserved my copy of this game and got a demo disk for it. I've NEVER player either of the other god of war games but even i think that this game is very awesome just from the demo. If you are a god of war fan you definately should get it, and even if you have never played any of them, i reccomend getting it and trying something new (www.gamedaily.com....f-olympus/)

For me, it has to be Rome:Total Realism. (The vanilla version of Rome:Total War is just silly. The RTR Platinum mod makes it the game it should have been). (blogs.guardian.co.uk....happy.html)

We'll put all of the big news announcements up here when they happen. Is it safe to say yet that Gears of War 2 is a dead cert? I'd be shocked if it isn't announced for this holiday season in the next hour (blog.wired.com/games/2008/02/)

Life guest blogger and God of War designer David Jaffe has returned from his lengthy self-imposed hiatus from the Interweb and updated his blog again. Only I&m not sure everyone is going to like hearing what he has to say (blog.wired.com/games/2006/07/)

And of course, I played Gears of War . This was after a press conference where I literally got chills down my spine watching CliffyB play it. Ordinarily I couldn't care less about Western shooters, but Gears of War was breathtaking (blog.wired.com/games/2006/05/)

"If I57;m an employee of Atari, then I57;d be stepping all over them. This way, I57;m representing a buyer. I can act swiftly and get buyers on the table 70; To be clear, I cannot sell the company but I can get publishers excited about the company enough to get a bidding war going on." (blog.wired.com/games/2006/02/)

The story picks up where players last left off with Kratos. Sitting atop his throne on Olympus, Kratos, the once mortal warrior has become a threat far worse than his predecessor Ares, had ever been. Kratos. [ more ] (www.gamedaily.com....st/5065/0/)

Though the original Deus Ex is considered a classic, the sequel, Invisible War , didn't fare quite so well. Given that one of Eidos Montreal 's tenets is longer development schedules, it's going to be a while before we have any inkling as to Deus Ex 3 's fate (blog.wired.com/games/2007/11/)

Gamecock Media and Red Fly Studios have come together to announce that the backyard war of the Mushroom Men will be taking place on the Wii and the DS. Each system will get its own unique take on the conflict, with story and controls designed to suit the individual strengths of the DS and the Wii (blog.wired.com/games/2007/05/)

GameDaily's editor James Brightman discusses why he doesn't believe the PlayStation 3 will lose the console war. Mostly it comes down to the fact that Microsoft hasn't made the big strides they really needed to what with their year-long jump on Sony (blog.wired.com/games/2006/10/)

Whether or not Sony wins the console war isn't really the issue here - it's the erosion of their dominant industry position and all the implications of that. It's not as if all this becomes moot the second they take 51% of the market. (blog.wired.com/games/2006/10/)

The Daily Mail reports that a release party for God of War II held in Athens , Greece last month featured a decapitated goat as part of its festivities (blog.wired.com/games/2007/04/)

It's a bit late, but the demo for (deep breath) God of War: Chains of Olympus â Special Edition: Battle of Attica for the PSP is finally on the way. The demo was supposed to be available the first week of September , but Cory Barlog and pals ran a wee bit behind. His post in the official PlayStation Blog was appropriately apologetic (blog.wired.com/games/2007/09/)

Microsoft passes the word along that Gears of War has sold over two million copies worldwide (over half of that in the US) to become the fastest-selling next-generation console game and the fastest-selling Xbox exclusive . Ever (blog.wired.com/games/2006/12/)

Gears of War isn't the only Xbox property pushing three million copies. Burger King released a healthy second-quarter financials report today, in which the scrappy fast-food underdog reported that their growth was primarily driven by some unorthodox revenue sources (blog.wired.com/games/2007/01/)

Before this, David Jaffe showed off God of War 2 for PS2, which was easily the most exciting thing at the keynote. He joked that it was on the PS2 because PS3 couldn't render three-way sex scenes in realtime. Anyone who's played GOW knows what he means. It looks phenomenal (blog.wired.com/games/2006/03/)
