The Books Guys is a weekly NPR radio show about books and collecting books. Recently, the show dipped into the twin worlds of science fiction and fantasy with Nelson Freck, the SF and F expert at Second Story Books in Washington DC, who offered his thoughts and expertise on the genres. (www.abebooks.com....-sff.shtml)
It's not too late to get your books valued. If you have a science fiction or fantasy book treasure in your attic that you'd like to get valued, let the Book Guys know . (www.abebooks.com....-sff.shtml)
While all mob guys have their goumadas , anyone who even suggested the nearest touch of a mob guy&s wife would be getting on an express train to oblivion . (www.nypost.com....uys_gu.htm)
Artificially-darkened skin aside (or maybe because of it), why do I have a suspicion that some of these guys use the N-word on a regular basis? (And not in a friendly way.) (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
It's a global plague, because I've seen a number of guys sporting similar haircuts here in Italy since the late '90s. The spray tan is less widespread, natural tan or solar bed's tan are more common. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
I had just turned to my boyfriend not a few minutes ago and said, "I wonder how many of these guys grew up watching Dragonball Z and it not-so-subtly influenced their fashion choices?" (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Are you sure these guys are American? Their faces don't look like they speak English. They look almost Dutch, the one guy who is more muscular than anyone else, his face doesn't look remotely American. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
@89: "Are you sure these guys are American? Their faces don't look like they speak English. They look almost Dutch, the one guy who is more muscular than anyone else, his face doesn't look remotely American." (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
"American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest opens Guys Night by reminding us "people are saying this year's talent is the best yet." By "people" he means "Idol" producers. This is our first opportunity to see what they mean. Naturally, the 12 guys are forced to sing tunes from the 1960s - when their grandparents were young. (blog.washingtonpost.com...._th_1.html)
Although last night wasn't a great sampling from the boys, I agree with Doc that they are far more talented that last season's crop. All 12 guys were significantly better than probably 75% of the last year's top 24 although not as strong as seasons 2 and 5. (blog.washingtonpost.com...._th_1.html)
at least six of the guys didn't deserve to be on stage last night , but perhaps were picked by the 'producers' for entertainment value as opposed to talent. (blog.washingtonpost.com...._th_1.html)
I voted mostly for David Archuleta, and a few votes for David Hernandez. I agree that David Archuleta is a bit young yet he can easily outsing a lot of the guys there. I don't get tired of him being humble because it seems genuine of course, time will tell whether or not that gets old. (blog.washingtonpost.com...._th_1.html)
Blokes, we finally have an answer to Green Girls Global . In a stunning piece of man literalism, it's dubbed Green Guys Global . So far, there's a chance to win a copy of John Grant's book on green marketing, plus a heads-up on the WWF's climate bill campaign. (thegreenguy.typepad.com....-glob.html)
Well we knew Jens Lekman , Julie Doiron , Casiotone for the Painfully Alone , and- in all likelihood- these guys were fans, but they're hardly the only ones. (www.pitchforkmedia.com....ssue-debut)
The Works of HG Wells 28-volume set, available from Royal Books Inc. Note that this is not the actual set that was valued on the show. [ Find this Copy ] [ Browse Their Books ] (www.abebooks.com....-sff.shtml)
A number of AbeBooks customers had science fiction and fantasy books valued on the show with the valuations ranging from $5 to a whopping $10,000 for a set of HG Wells books. (www.abebooks.com....-sff.shtml)
“Wells was an extraordinarily prolific writer. There are hundreds of novels and books that he has written and 90 per cent are not collectible,” said Allan Stypeck , the show’s resident rare book expert. “This set, however, I would not have any problem selling for $10,000.” (www.abebooks.com....-sff.shtml)
Linda Schiro, the ultimate mob moll, yesterday told of dozens of meetings between Scarpa and FBI Agent Lindley DeVecchio at which she had a front-row seat. (www.nypost.com....uys_gu.htm)
Of course, the moment of this trial of murder and treachery that will go down in the mob history books was when she talked about her love life with Greg Scarpa and one of his flunkies. (www.nypost.com....uys_gu.htm)
I just told Greg that there&s this really nice delivery boy, and, you know, we had this relationship that, whatever, made me happy, you know? And I told him I&d like to go to bed with Larry [Mazza, a hit man]. (www.nypost.com....uys_gu.htm)
Thereās no telling what new Chrysler Chairman and CEO Robert Nardelli will do to transform the troubled car company in the coming months. But I think itās fair to70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
Another month of slightly-down car sales should be enough to put anyone to sleep. But AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson thinks that the slumping economy and car market should wake70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
If Lee Iacocca has one thing to answer for, it57;s letting his personal feelings about Bob Lutz get in the way of naming the auto exec CEO when he had70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
The Financial Times is reporting that Robert Nardelli, the new chairman/CEO of Chrysler, ill draw a $1 per year salary from the automaker57;s owner Cerberus Capital. If true, that57;s a70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
Just back from the Chrysler press conference at which Bob Nardelli (right)was introduced as chairman and CEO. I counted at least four times that he put his hand on70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
Not surprisingly, Wolfgang Bernhard, former COO of Chrysler, will be taking the reins as chairman of the new Chrysler Corp. for new majority-owner Cerberus Capital Management after the deal to70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
General Motors and Ford began talks with the United Auto Workers today in what will probably be the most important round of contract talks the Detroit automakers have had in70; (www.businessweek.com..../car_guys/)
The Guys discuss the negative side of sharing information about living family members, especially when one becomes a debtor who becomes the subject of debt collectors. Some debtors are now accessing genealogical database as vehicles to persecute and ride relatives of a debtor, and that is illegal (genealogyguys.com/)
The Something Awful forums had an amazing Guido megathread going for awhile, and it lead to a lot of reminiscing with a friend from NYC the girlfriends of guidos are called "guidettes," by the way. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
The more I see these the more convinced I am that many of these are are doing this as some sort of entirely self-aware prank. I do not believe the oompa-looma white-suited guido linked above by NE2D could possibly be anything but a smartass. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
I second the New Jersey split proposal only so I no longer have to pass through the "Trenton Time Warp" That magical middle section of NJ that once entered, transports you back in time 15 years, and somehow into the deep south. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
As a functionary in club-land, all I have to say is that the pout (beyond the Zoolander reference) is a universal pose for this crowd, like flipping the bird at the camera. Its transcended cliche and become a norm. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Linguistic sexual dimorphism: skanks. Although I suspect that otherwise charming young ladies pose for these pictures with the circus freaks as a joke. "I went to Jersey and all I got was this lousy orange stain on my dress." (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Gosh, how the English language has degenerated since my younger days. Why when I was a youth, it was a simple rule that the girls should be called douche-bags, and the boys should be called scum-bags. Simple and clear. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Personally, I think the new "exotic" look is actually no makeup, no tattoos, no piercings, no hair coloring and no spray on tan. That's a rare configuration! :-p (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Yes, because clearly anyone who is not obsessing over their own appearance must be a virgin, Antinous. Because nothing says, "I'm popular with the opposite sex" like a maximum number of body modifications. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
i've seen some of these kids on other blogs before. if i had to guess i'd say they're more than likely part of the long island B&T crowd (ever been in penn station after the NYC clubs shut down?). (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
and to any of you NY folks that like to chide jersey residents. how long does it take you to get from your residence to the ESB? if it's anything longer than 20 minutes on a good day you might consider moving to jersey. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
I can forgive everything but the hair. Yes, even the terrible spray tans. But American hairstyles are shit. Just shit. It stems from the fact that most American stylists (except at the super-expensive level) are also shit. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
As odd as it may look, I find it incredibly negative and unexpected that people are being so discriminate here. It's just a little micro-culture it's their business to look how they want to. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Skin color will be one of those things that we'll be able to change-in the Future. I'm going to stay a nice pale shade of Irish white, until I decide to go jet black. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
the origin of this picture is actually probably not NJ, but rather a techno discotheque in Vienna , Austria , called "NACHTSCHICHT" ("nightshift") whose patrons are primarily from working-class backgrounds. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
Thank goodness I was always suave and timelessly stylish through my late teens. My wavy blond mullet was both attractive and functional for all occasions, formal and informal. (At least the internets were not around then to attest otherwise.) (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
I somehow doubt that these were all taken in New Jersey, and I am loathe to generalize about North Jersey, as I have friends living there who are not spray-tanning dingleberrys like these guys. Note that the top photo has a Hungarian web address on it, there are other visual clues that point toward someplace other than Jersey, but who knows. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
He said, "I hardly think this is Dragonball Z 's fault. But I disagree. I remember being very influenced by cartoon fashion when I was a teenager back in the 1980s. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
@ adamnv & ill lich & Takuan & DCer: wrong. all jersey. the int'l addresses are symply an indication of how ubiquitous and universal is the humor contained in those photos. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
With luck, the orange dye will render them sterile. And who says that nobody is going to scan your yearbook photo and post it online? That's almost a dare. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
I believe this phenomenon is generally relegated to Bergen County, NJ which is the county next to where I live, Hudson County (*Bergen Co, is where 'The Sopranos 'is primarily set- suburban Hell) (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
I guess the time has come to confess that I knew one of these. Except he was gay. And in his 30s. He was my ex-boyfriend's other boyfriend. We nicknamed him Tybo after the giant carrot in The Great Vegetable Rebellion episode of Lost In Space . He had some severe personality disorders. Like permanent disability personality disorders. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)
But however bad it is, Disco (which means many things to many people) is not a common thread in its history. Last time Finish metal band "Lordi" got the dubious price.and promptly had a public square named after them back home. (www.boingboing.net....ys-in.html)

Randy is a lovable loser in every sense of the word. He is Earl Hickey's loyal brother and sidekick. What makes him funny is his twisted rapid-fire stream of consciousness. You always know what Randy is thinking, but you're never quite sure what's going to come out of Randy's mouth . (tvcomedies.about.com....Hickey.htm)

The fact that real people could lose real jobs moves the proposed $4 billion development beyond an abstract debate over the process by which city and state agencies and businessman Bruce Ratner shaped the project. (www.nydailynews.com....uys-1.html)
State and federal courts have already heard four cases and a blizzard of motions on those questions, and ruled each time in favor of Ratner and the Empire State Development Corp., the lead government agency managing the project. (www.nydailynews.com....uys-1.html)
