That's the whole point. You don't choose to be a fan of a team. You hope that, say, your stocks do well. Do you "root" for them? Do you attend the corresponding big corporate events? I have a cheering scenario for everyone: which is stronger , alliance to a conference or hatred of a rival? I grew up in Texas so the nearest rivalry growing up was A&M and UT. The "others" roofer was right. You don't want ridge vents AND the attic fan. It's one or the other, for best ventilation. Assuming that your attic area is all connected, your powered attic fan is better. If you have cathedral style ceilings it's another story (en.allexperts.com....Vent-1.htm)
Danny If we are talking about a motorized fan, mounted to the roof, then the ridgevents are fine as long as you have soffit vents that are clear. If you are talking about a wholehouse fan mounted in the ceiling of, say, a hallway, ridgevents still ok. You should have minimum R38 insulation in your attic (about 12 inches thick).
