Your sisters are like this because you allow them to be like this. YOU need to take a stand and voice how you feel and let them know you will no longer allow yourself to be treated and abused in this way. They won''t take you serious at first . but if you stand firm and let them know that you are serious, they will adjust. This will take time, so you will have to be strong and stand your grounds ! Sister Betsey Leibert released them from their former Choir ribbons, and Sisters Susel and Esther bound the maidens with the laying on of hands. Afterwards he recommended the entire Choir, and particularly the seven sisters , to the Savior , in a heartfelt prayer for blessing. At noon the Choir dined together very gladly in the Bet-Saal . At 2 o clock Br. Nathanael held the Festival Liebesmahl . We had the Psalm from 74. At 4 o clock Br. Ettwein spoke over the Loosung and the text. Finally, he briefly repeated the festival sermon in English, because a few individuals from Gnadenhütten understood no German. At 8 o clock Br. Ettwein held the blessed Abendmahl , under a powerful sense of Grace. The Single Sister A. M. Yarrel remained away. On the morning of the 5th, at eight o clock, Sister Susel held the Communion Liturgy, and afterwards our Nazareth Sisters and other guests went home pleased. (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

The six notorious and passionately opinionated daughters of the second Baron Redesdale knew many key figures of the 20th century, from Hitler and Churchill to Evelyn Waugh and Lucian Freud. The sisters wrote some 12,000 letters to each other over a span of 80 years—the last was a fax sent in 2003 by 83-year-old Deborah to the dying 93-year-old Diana—and 5% are included here. The turbulent years before and during WWII produced the most noteworthy correspondence: Jessica scandalized her family by running away with her Communist cousin, and Diana divorced a Guinness heir to marry British fascist leader Oswald Mosley. Anti-Semitic Unity gushes like a schoolgirl over Hitler and tells Jessica that she wouldn't hesitate to kill Jessica's Communist husband for Nazism—but in the meanwhile she hopes they can be friends. Nancy writes cheerily to the imprisoned Diana after secretly testifying against her during the war . In later years, Jessica irritated her sisters from her home in America and broke completely with Diana over political differences (www.amazon.com....0061373648)

Boy, if this isn't an eye-opener! Not a particularly scholarly treatise (thank God), the book nonetheless chronicles well the incredible story of the impact on our American history and way of life "the Sisters " have had. Living in the "heyday" of the 50's early 60's, and having had the blessings of a parochial education, I was not only mesmerized by Fialka's exploration of the scope and breadth and depth of the impact nuns in America have had, but deeply saddened to get a fuller sense of the decline of this influence in our society. I'm no feminist, but if any women in our history deserve greater recognition and honor for what they contributed to our lives it's these women. Fialka's narrative bounces around a little, but he keeps you focused on the mostly selfless dedication many of these Sisters lived by. The stereotypical nun whacking your knuckles with a ruler obscures the realities Fialka chronicles in case after case of the love and devotion so many of these Sisters lavished on their students (or patients (www.amazon.com....93-8373740)

Despite the horrible reviews Brothers & Sisters received prior to its premiere last year, I found the first few episodes of the series quite enjoyable and even gave it a season pass. With all of the other great series airing last season, before I knew it, several weeks worth of episodes remained unwatched on my DVR and eventually I had to erase those episodes because I was running out of space on my DVR at an alarming pace. When I received the first season on DVD , I gleefully settled in for a giant Walker family marathon and found myself completely hooked on this fantastic drama! Find out what goodies await fans in this latest TV on DVD release and be sure to tune in (as will I) when Brothers & Sisters returns September 30 on ABC (tvdramas.about.com....d-cash.htm)

A genre- and gender-defying mix of rock, pop, and dance inspired by burlesque, drag queens, and glam rock, New York 's Scissor Sisters made a splash in late 2003/early 2004 with their neon-bright reimagining of Pink Floyd 's "Comfortably Numb," the B-side to the band's first single, "Electrobix." The song made quite a name for the band, which features singers Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, keyboardist/bassist Babydaddy, guitarists Del Marquis and Derek G, and drummer Paddy Boom: along with becoming the calling card that got the band signed to Polydor in the U.K., "Comfortably Numb" was heralded "Single of the Month" by Dazed and Confused and Jockey Slut magazines, named an "Essential New Tune" by Pete Tong on Britain's Radio 1, and also received considerable play by DJs including Felix da Housecat and Tiga. Scissor Sisters (whose name is slang for a lesbian sex act) came from the cutting edge of New York 's nightlife and gay culture, incorporating elements of burlesque and drag shows, as well as performance art, into their theatrical live show (www.mp3.com....s/summary/)

This was the perfect setting for their music, which gleaned the best of Elton John , the Bee Gees , the B-52's, David Bowie , and many other artists with a campy sense of humor and impeccable style. After proving themselves as one of the city's most dynamic live acts, Scissor Sisters won over British and European audiences on a tour early in 2004 that coincided with the release of their self-titled debut album. That March, they returned stateside for a South by Southwest gig with Junior Senior and the B-52's before returning to the U.K. to tour with Duran Duran in support of the "Take Your Mama Out" single. The band continued to have a busy spring and summer , launching their first U.S. tour in May - coinciding with the stateside release of Scissor Sisters - and returning to Europe in June and July. These dates included two gigs supporting Scissor Sisters ' spiritual and musical godfather, Elton John , as well as appearances at festivals such as Glastonbury, T in the Park, Roskilde, and the Montreux Jazz Festiva (www.mp3.com....s/summary/)

One of England's leading "goth" bands of the 1980s, the Sisters of Mercy play a slow, gloomy, ponderous hybrid of metal and psychedelia, often incorporating dance beats; the one constant in the band's career has been deep-voiced singer Andrew Eldritch. (There is some disagreement as to whether the group took its name from an order of Catholic nuns or from the Leonard Cohen song of the same name.) Eldritch originally formed the band in 1980 with guitarist Gary Marx and recorded its first single with a drum machine dubbed Doktor Avalanche . Guitarist Ben Gunn and bassist Craig Adams were added to make live gigs feasible, and the Sisters built a reputation through several singles and EPs. Gunn left the band in 1983 and was replaced by Wayne Hussey. The Sisters of Mercy recorded their first full-length album, First and Last and Always, in 1985, but two years later, internal dissent had split them apart; Marx left to form Ghost Dance, and Adams and Hussey departed shortly thereafter. A legal dispute ensued over the rights to the name Sisters of Mercy; Adams and Hussey attempted to use the name Sisterhood, but Eldritch released an EP under the name to prevent its usage, and the two finally settled on the Missio (www.mp3.com....y/summary/)

But if the women are proving they can fight, what about non-combat matters, especially prolonged integration under austere conditions and worse? Again, a new norm is emerging. Familiarity may breed contempt, but it can also breed respect. What you lose in privacy, you gain in modesty. More than once, I encountered men who weren't that unhappy to share an open-bay barracks with women; it cut down on some of the guys ' more undesirable habits. Total integration also enhances female safety. Male harassers and predators, it seems, tend not to target women in their own units, perhaps not wanting to go into combat with an armed woman they've annoyed or attacked. The guys in a unit can be very protective of their sisters against outsiders. For that matter, they can be pretty protective of visiting women. (www.military.com....P1,00.html)

25th. The Saviour showed himself in a remarkable way to His dear Girls Choir early in the morning, during the Morning Blessing, which the dear Sister. Susel held with a prayer on her knees. At Eight O clock Br. Thrane held the church services, and also recommended this little Choir to the Savior in prayer. At 10 O clock, he held a Receiving Sermon for the following six children: Elis. Krogstruff, Elis. Proskin, A. M. Staubern, Sus. Langardt, Sarah Thorp, and Rosine Hubern, all of whom Sister Esther unbound from the Children s Choir, and Sisters Susel and Betsey accepted [into the Single Sisters Choir] with the laying on of hands. At the same time he held the Festival homily over the Loosung And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy on you. (2) At noon, the whole Choir dined in the Bet-Saal . At 2 O clock was the Agapen [Lovefeast] where the Psalm from 1774 was held again. Br. Nathanael held it. (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

Afterwards was the worship service of the Single Sisters , Br. Thrane held it also. In the evening, the communicant Girls bound themselves with the cup of covenant to new faithfulness. Br. Thrane first gave a very beautiful introduction and also ardently led the liturgy. In this way, this Blessed Day, which was particularly outstanding, came thankfully and happily to a close (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

3rd&ur Sisters from Nazareth came, fourteen in number, with Sister Juliane Wacklern. [Sisters also came] from Gnadenhütten, Emmaus, and Schöneck, who were all spoken to by Sisters Susel and Esther . In the afternoon, Sister Susel held a sinner-like Meeting (3) with the received and unreceived sisters , with a prayer on the knees. At 8 o clock, the communicant Choir came to the Meeting, when, after a short Sermon, Sister Susel fell on her knees and poured out our request to the Savior , that we be absolved of everything that could be found in us, that was not pleasing to His maiden-like Heart, we find so much that His Blood should wash away, and we would gladly be People of His Heart, in reflection of His bitter Pain, His comforting and Blessed presence was to be felt among us, and then the Washers stood up and attended to the Choir [with footwashing?], under Sister Susel s Liturgy, and so the comforted sinners laid themselves blessedly to rest (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

18th&n the House Conference the leaders were urgently begged not to let the spirit of division, that can be seen here and there in the town, come among our Sisters , to keep watch over themselves, so that they do not give opportunity. We want to recommend the matter of the War diligently to the Savior , without whom nothing can happen, we want ourselves not to be infested by the affairs of the world, but rather to hold ourselves tight to the Savior , and ever more become more deeply accustomed to communion with Him. They testified with pain that one had already felt such [disturbances] here and there among the sisters (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

4th&t three-thirty Sister Susel held the first Harvest Morning Blessing, and asked the sisters heartily to act and behave in the eyes of the Savior , and to honor Him, and not to permit anything within themselves that could sadden the Savior and was not befitting for maidens; she presented these sisters to the Savior in a prayer for the protection of Body and Soul. Ettwein to make space for his 4,000 men, who in a couple hours would be there. Br. Ettwein addressed himself to General Gats, who immediately sent his Adjutant from the House with the order , that if they were not already too near to Bethlehem, they should take another path. It was already too late, however. Then at four o clock, General Sulivan with his 4,000 men were in the town, which in actuality [had been prepared] for General Lee and his men, he [Lee], however, the dear God had allowed to be taken prisoner two days earlier, (which his own Officers had said here in Bethlehem), so that nothing bad happened to us. In this chaos, we asked for two guards, which he immediately granted. We soon made accommodations so that our sisters and girls from outside the town came to sleep in our House. Br. Ettwein soon brought General Sulivan with his nearer Officers to us in the House, at first he appeared very grand, but finally however was very modest. Our sisters had to sing to him, and play on the zithe (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

19th&arly in the morning, General Sulivan and his men marched away, Sister Susel took the twelve men who had been our guard around the House. They thanked and assured many [that they would] never to forget the good deeds that had been shown to them by our House. Reb. Langley made our compliments to General Gats, and gave him a very beautiful pocketbook as a present, which he gladly accepted. In the afternoon he marched away very pleased towards the Brethren. Our sisters who live outside of the town were very thankful that everything came off without harm. (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

At the close of this year, we know nothing other than to praise pure blessing, faithful love, and mercy, and to prostrate ourselves in the dust before Jesus feet, give ourselves anew to Him, to do with us what is what is pleasing to Him, and to take from us what saddens him. The beautiful promise which at the beginning of this year was made by Unity Elders Conference, When You Will Call etc, One has Him where man weeps for Him, has certainly been fulfilled for us, as we have always receive comfort, help, and counsel from Him, when we called on Him for them. To Him 1,000 thanks should be said, for all inner and outward mercies shown, for His invaluable dear presence, for the Sacramental embraces, and for His actions in our midst day and night . And so we recommend ourselves to His Soul, and further to his Mercy, that He will protect our Body and Soul from all injury. The following are to be remembered as special days of blessing outside of the Festival Days that we celebrated with the Gemeine with true blessing: The Big Girls in their Choir Festival on March 25 bound themselves to new faithfulness with the cup of the covenant, as the communicant sisters did on their Teaching Day, June 10 (bdhp.moravian.edu....s1776.html)

For their wit, intelligence, good looks, and politics, the aristocratic Mitford sisters were the toast of the mid-twentieth century. They were prodigious correspondents, particularly between each other. Mosley, daughter-in-law of Diana Mitford, has selected and excerpted from some 12,000 letters between the sisters over a period of almost 80 years, to shed light on women described as Famous Notorious Talented Glamourous Turbulent Unpredicable Celebrated Infamous Rebellious Colourful Idiosyncratic, as quoted from Jessica's obituaries. As friends and confidantes of noted figures of their time, from royals to statesmen to artists, the sisters drop prominent names offhandedly; Deborah, then Duchess of Devonshire (and the only sister still living), comments to Diana: have had my fill more of Heads of State begin to prefer the ponies. Notable for their humor and compassion, these letters reveal Nancy's sharp tongue; Pamela's love of the land (but not of children); Diana's lifelong devotion to her fascist husband, Sir Oswald Mosley; Unity's infatuation with Hitler; Jessica's estrangements and distance from the others ; and Deborah's role as peacemak (www.amazon.com....0061373648)

" Most of all, these letters make wonderful reading because they provide a chronicle of a family over seventy years or so. The Mitford sisters married, divorced, had affairs, lost husbands/brothers/friends during the war and afterward, gave birth to children, some of whom died, dealt with their aging parents' illnesses and deaths, and then grew old and ill themselves. I particularly felt for Nancy, who suffered miserably from cancer for four years, and for her sisters who took enormous trouble to visit and help her as much as they could. I longed for Diana and Jessica to make up their quarrel, which meant they rarely corresponded after 1940, and was glad when they finally exchanged a letter or two in the 1970s. Unity and Diana always troubled me, and they do even more after I read their letters: how could people that bright, fun, and artistic have become Fascists? Pam always was and remains the most unknown of the sisters , evidently a bit on the slow side and often made fun of (but still loved by) her sisters , while Deborah had the thankless task of remaining the one sibling who stayed on everyone's good side and thus had to help relay messages and settle family quarre (www.amazon.com....0061373648)
