Restoration of trust requires leadership from Corporate America, which is not forthcoming. The first thing needed is a statement similar to that of Henry M. .back yonder isn't such a far away, nebulous time after all. Miss Addie laughed and talked about her granddaddy Pringle whoseNassau County farm on the Saint Mary's River was among her favoritememories. "Grandpa paid me a nickel every day to keep the flies offhim when he took his noonday nap on the front porch. Addie Howard was an enterprising and independent young lady whoalso accepted a nickle a day from her uncle Chambers Pringle to ridethe horse around the sweep during cane grinding. But she flatlyrefused to "break my back picking cotton for almost nothing", for anuncle-in-law Jim Davis "the meanest man what ever wore shoes." Helived up to Hililard. Was a wheelwright. And just told Daddy Iwouldn't stay up there for the littte bit he paid." Addie's grandfather, Jack Pringle, was a steady, settled man whomoved very little, if at all, after arriving in Florida from CamdenCounty, Georgia . His farm was just above Mill Creek and was borderedby the deep Saint Mary's River. The name of "union" applied to a flag or the quarter of a flag is very clearly defined in the work of Schuyler Hamilton on the "National Flag" but as many may not have met with this work, we will, at the risk of repeating to those already informed on the subject, explain that it was applied to the " quarter" or upper left hand corner of the British national ensign, and, in the case of the flag called a "jack" to the whole field of the flag, to designate the union of England and Scotland by the union of the two crosses, the cross of Saint George and the cross of Saint Andrew, which had previously been the respective standards of the two kingdoms. There were three colors or ensigns used in the British navy by the three classes of admirals, styled admiral of the red, of the white, and of the blue. They each had the same union or quarter. The ensign of the red was the flag used at Boston long before the revolution and continued up to the year 1776; when, on the 1st of January General Washington hoisted on the heights at Cambridge, in honor of the new army, just then organized, the "Great Union Flag" a flag retaining the British union as the colors of the king, to whom they still claimed allegiance, and the field , instead of being a plain red ground, one of thirteen stripes , red and white, typical of the union of the thirteen colonies; the union or quarter showing submission to the higher jurisdiction of the crow (www.ushistory.org..../canby.htm)

We thumb through the binder, which contains information on just six or seven dogs, and notice that at the bottom of each and every sheet â from the little Jack Russell to the 100-pound Saint Bernard â there is a checkmark next to the line that says, Not suitable for adoption by families with children under 12, or words to that effect. We've always had big canines, including one nervous doberman mix who required a little extra parental attention around our kids, so we feel that, short of a dog that's known to be overly aggressive, we can handle it. Blissfully undeterred, we ask to see Baxter, the Saint Bernard. Judging by his picture (at right), he's a lovable lug, and he's described as having a friendly and affectionate disposition (www.bakelblog.com....s/2007/05/)

WHEN RACCOONS ATTACK ! "Saint Robin" went to great lengths to rescues these sisters , now five months. Says Robin, "Their mom was rescued as she was giving birth to them and their two brothers, Jack and CB, from raccoons who were circling her. We brought her in, she had the kittens, and they have been in the house ever since. Mom has been spayed, judged healthy and has adapted to living with four senior cats. The babies are another story, but so far there have been no serious confrontations with the seniors. A good time is had by all! (aarp.typepad.com....s/2006/10/)

He thanks Robert for the letter of the 16th and the book. He has received good accounts of his boys at the Mountain. Willie (Seton) is doing superbly and Jack John Foster Seton is trying to do better. Will(iam Seton) wants Henry to send them to an engineering institute in New York , which he will do if he can afford it. Henry feels that with 4 years at Mount Saint Mary's and two years at the Engineer School at Troy, Willie could do well at West Point. He is sorry Robert's accident prevented him from accepting the invitations he spoke of but he hopes Robert is exaggerating the extent of his injury and will soon be up and around. He has met a priest who knew Robert in Rome, Father Aloisis M. Folchi. He hopes to be back east in two years (archives1.archives.nd.edu....188402.htm)

And so first they came to Saint Thomas of Canterbury, and there John Ball had thought to have found the bishop of Canterbury, but he was at London with the king. When Wat Tyler and Jack Straw entered into Canterbury, all the common people made great feast, for all the town was of their assent; and there they took counsel to go to London to the king, and to send some of their company over the river of Thames into Essex, into Sussex and into the counties of Stafford and Bedford, to speak to the people that they should all come to the farther side of London and thereby to close London round about, so that the king should not stop their passages, and that they should all meet together on Corpus Christi da (www.bartleby.co....1/302.html)

There were many within the city of their accord, and so they drew together and said: Why do we not let these good people enter into the city? they are your fellows, and that that they do is for us. So therewith the gates were opened, and then these people entered into the city and went into houses and sat down to eat and drink. They desired nothing but it was incontinent brought to them, for every man was ready to make them good cheer and to give them meat and drink to appease them. 2 Then the captains, as John Ball, Jack Straw and Wat Tyler, went throughout London and a twenty thousand with them, and so came to the Savoy in the way to Westminster, which was a goodly house and it pertained to the duke of Lancaster. And when they entered, they slew the keepers thereof and robbed and pilled the house, and when they had so done, then they set fire on it and clean destroyed and brent it. And when they had done that outrage , they left not therewith, but went straight to the fair hospital of the Rhodes called Saint John s, 1 and there they brent house, hospital, minster and al (www.bartleby.co....1/303.html)

He owed his allegiance to no flag andconducted his brigandage from a fortified headquarters some believewas at or near Brandy Branch community (attested to by Elias Hicks, c.1775 c. 1814, an ancestor of several Baker Countians). Of the three, this infamous character was the most probablecandidate for a swamp person, but we have yet to uncover evidence thatMcGirth was familiar with any but the lower perimeter of theOkefenokee. Among the influential Indian traders around and in theswamp was Jack Kennard, a rich Scots half breed. He was described byhis contemporaries as despotic illiterate, conniving, and of beingpossessed of consumate abilities in dealing with the Creeks andSeminoles and the Spanish. Although his residence and post was on theFlint River far to the west, his business so frequently took him tothe Traders Hill-Colerain-Saint Mary's area that the route skirtingthe northern edge of the Okefenokee (previously an Indian path) becameknown as Kennard's Trading path. Kennard often dipped into the swamp for a hunting expedition, andit was rumored that he sometimes invited stumbling blocks and enemiesalong these hunts and returned without them left for gator snac (ftp.rootsweb.com....w19813.txt)

Jack Klugman : He against all odds , fought for that theatre. He put on some wonderful productions The Crucible , Saint Joan, Timon of Athens ). We did Three Men On A Horse, Sunshine Boys, Inherit the Wind . Wonderful productions! But, yet the press called him a television entrepreneur trying to get on Broadway, and I thought it was terrible what they did to him. Regardless of the odds, he put 8 million dollars of his money to get that theatre going and he made it a good thing. He did wonderful plays and he never let anything stop him. He would do shows and say, Don't pay me, put that money into the fund for my theatre. He was dedicated; he wanted to bring good theatre to America (contemporarylit.about.com....nInt_2.htm)

Saint Barack of Obama My lovely wife, a Clinical Psychologist with a couple of PhD"s, seldom makes mistakes. Not counting that "I Do" before a minister pronounced very few years ago."What do you think of Obama?" I asked her, curious to get a clear judgment on a candidate that seems to have raised a tsunami of expectations from the American public. A public that is desperately seeking someone to worship. I have already registered shameless comparisons of Obama with Lincoln, Jesus of Nazareth , Jack and Bob Kennedy, Plato, Enrico Carusso, Martin Luther King, George Clooney , Daniel Webster, St. Augustine, Count Dracula and Borat. You listen to the panegyrics and you can almost see the halo around Obama"s pointed head. I said so. She smiled, condescendingly as usual, and replied:"Great powers of expression. I heard him talk about the problem of garbage disposal in urban areas. I remember it word by word." She quoted:"Problems of this kind in our nation answer to a popular belief in the infallibility of the subtle control projected by any government with an ideal in mind and a policy on han (www.huffingtonpost.com....86954.html)

Just as you can tell whether someone comes from Brooklyn or Newfoundland by the way they speak, Weddell seals also have their own dialects. Dr. Jack Terhune , a biologist at the University of New Brunswick in Saint John, has been studying the vocalizations of Weddell seals off the coast of Antarctica. Dr. Terhune and his colleagues studied the sounds male seals make when they're defending their territory. Weddell seals make these sounds - called trills - by essentially humming incredibly loudly. Not only are trills loud (they can travel over 30 km underwater) and eerie, but they differ from region to region around the Antarctic continent. Dr. Terhune was surprised to find that even relatively close neighbors spoke different dialects, suggesting that the various seal clans don't do much social mixin (www.cbc.ca....jan19.html)

Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have gathered to pay tribute to acting legend Jack Lemmon , who died this year at 76. Kevin Spacey , Tom Hanks , and Hank Azaria were among the 500 guests at the event at the Paramount Studios Theater in Los Angeles. Azaria, who co-starred with Lemmon in Tuesdays With Morrie , says of the actor, "He was the patron saint of acting without limits ; the only boundary is the one you impose on yourself." Lemmon's son Chris spoke of his father's last moments, revealing, "At the end I held him in my arms and all he was able to do was mouth the words, 'I love you' to his family. He never complained about his illness; he tried to make it easy on his loved ones." Famed television producer Larry Gelbart seemed to sum up the sentiments of all in attendance with a well-crafted statement. "In all of the medical procedures he must have had to endure in his last days among us - no matter how many scanners or tests they subjected him to, it's a certainty that they never found one mean bone in the man's bod (www.imdb.com....00279/news)

The Heartland Spine & Specialty Hospital outside Kansas City, Kans. opened its doors in 2003 but found it tough to talk its way into any health insurer's network . Heartland alleged in a 2005 lawsuit that nearby hospitals threatened to jack up their prices if any insurer added Heartland to their network . One hospital, Saint Luke's, convened annual dinners for insurance executives at the Classic Cup restaurant where they compared notes on Heartland. A federal judge in October found enough evidence of a conspiracy to send the case to trial. A similar lawsuit was filed more recently by doctors in Houston who lost $12 million in a now shuttered minihospital (www.forbes.com..../086a.html)

This was the flag under which the United Empire Loyalists entered British North American (Canada) after leaving the Thirteen Colonies following the American Revolution in 1776. Hence, the term Loyalist Flag . The Loyalists have never forgotten nor abandoned the strong ties of this heritage. The flag now flown throughout Britain and her possessions includes the saltire of Saint Patrick which is red on white background. This was added in 1801 during the reign of King George III following the Act of Union in 1800 under which Ireland was incorporated along with England, Scotland, and Wales to form the United Kingdom. The origin of the term Union Jack is uncertain. The term Jack was first used in the British Navy as the name for the Union Flag flown at the Main Masthead. Strictly speaking, the term Union Jack applies to the Union Flag flown from the bow of a ship. After the legislative union of England and Scotland in 1707, during the reign of Queen Ann, the Union Flag became known as the British Fla (www.ptbo.igs.net....trivia.htm)
