Lately I57;ve been very interested in the idea of pulling off a mission that involves multiple agents taking the same cab consecutively. If we came up with a detailed plan for the drop off points, we should be able to ensure that a cab driver picks up a series of agents, without realizing that they are connected. There are endless possibilities with this device, but in keeping with Improv Everywhere57;s philosophy, I decided to stage a very simple mission with the goal of giving the cab driver a wonderfully happy experience, straight out of a romantic comed (improveverywhere.com....omedy-cab/)

Shakespeare, whose comedies ranged from the farcical to the tragicomic, was the master of the romantic comedy , while Jonson, whose drama was strongly influenced by classical tenets, wrote caustic, rich satire. 6 In 17th-century France , the classical influence was combined with that of the commedia dell arte in the drama of Molière , one of the greatest comic and satiric writers in the history of the theater. This combination is also present in the plays of the Italian Carlo Goldoni . After a period of suppression during the Puritan Revolution , the English comic drama reemerged with the witty, frequently licentious, consciously artificial comedy of manners of Etherege , Wycherley , Congreve , and others. At the close of the 17th cent., however, such stern reaction had set in against the bawdiness and frivolity of the Restoration stage that English comedy descended into what has become known as sentimental comedy. This drama, which sought more to evoke tears than laughter, had its counterpart in France in the comédie larmoyant (www.bartleby.com....omedy.html)

With the advent of the Renaissance, a new and vital drama emerged. In England in the 16th cent. the tradition of the interlude , developed by John Heywood and others, blended with that of Latin classic comedy, eventually producing the great Elizabethan comedy, which reached its highest expression in the plays of Shakespeare and Ben Jonson . Shakespeare, whose comedies ranged from the farcical to the tragicomic, was the master of the romantic comedy , while Jonson, whose drama was strongly influenced by classical tenets, wrote caustic, rich satire (www.encyclopedia.com....omedy.html)

Ira and Gomer both like to laugh. Comedy is quite a large category. Since we don't want to drown in the details, we are lumping all types of laugh producers together. Romantic comedies, gross-out comedies, phyical comedies, dry-wit comedies, it doesn't matter . They are all here. Come by this category often because we review alot of them (doylebluffs.com/comedy.html)

Reaching its height in the brilliantly scathing plays of Aristophanes , Old Comedy gradually declined and was replaced by a less vital and imaginative drama. In New Comedy, generally considered to have begun in the mid-4th cent. BC, the plays were more consciously literary, often romantic in tone, and decidedly less satirical and critical. Menander was the most famous writer of New Comedy. (www.encyclopedia.com....omedy.html)

7 In England during the later 18th cent. a resurgence of the satirical and witty character comedies was found in the plays of Sheridan . After an almost complete lapse in the early to mid-19th cent., good comedy was again brought to the stage in the comedies of manners by Oscar Wilde and in the comedies of ideas by George Bernard Shaw . In the late 1880s the great Russian dramatist Anton Chekhov began writing his subtle and delicate comedies of the dying Russian aristocracy. 8 Twentieth-Century Comedy The 20th cent. has witnessed a number of distinct trends in comedy. These include the sophisticated and witty comedy of manners, initiated by Oscar Wilde in the late 19th cent. and carried on by Noel Coward , S. N. Behrman , Philip Barry and others; the romantic comic fantasy of such playwrights as James M. Barrie and Jean Giraudoux and the native Irish comedy of J. M. Synge , Lady Gregory , Sean O Casey , Brendan Behan , and Brian Friel. 9 Also important are the musical comedy, which descends from 18th-century ballad operas and the comic operas of (www.bartleby.com....omedy.html)

As for the rest of the Top 10, Universal's war thriller The Kingdom with Jamie Foxx placed 7th, entering its 3rd weekend in release taking in $4.5 million from 2,836 theaters for a new cume of $39.9 mil. At No. 8 was Sony / Revolution 's Across The Universe , directed by Julie Taymor and featuring The Beatles hit songs (since Sony controls that music catalogue). Thanks to teenage girls seeing the romantic pic, it started its 5th week in release squeezing out another $4 million from just 954 venues for a new cume of $12.9 mil. Resident Evil 3 from Sony / Screen Gems snagged the 9th spot starting its 4th week in release. With a new cume of $48 mil, the sci-fi pic scraped together $2.6 million from 2,249 dates. Fox/Walden's underperforming kiddie fantasy holdover The Seeker  climbed up to No. 10 after Saturday matinees to take in $2.1 million from 3,173 theaters for a new cume of only $7.1 millio (www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com....ry/comedy/)

In 6th place sits Rowan Atkinson 's Mr. Bean's Holiday after the Universal laugher eked out $5.9 mil for the 3-day weekend and $8.1 mil for the 4-day holiday  from 1,765 venues for a new cume of $21.1 mil. The 7th spot went to The Weinstein Co's slacker The Nanny Diaries with Scarlett Johannson. After a paltry $5.2 mil 3-day weekend and $6.7 mil 4-day holiday from 2,636 dates, this MGM-distributed pic's new cume is a disastrous $16.8 mil.  War from Lionsgate starring Jet Li dropped a whopping 71% at the box office Friday compared to its opening a week ago: its new cume is a disappointing $18.1 mil after finishing the 3-day weekend in #9 with $4.2 mil and moving up to #8 for the 4-day holiday with $5.3 mil. Finishing the Top 10, Paramount's romantic fantasy Stardust hung in for a 3-day weekend of $3 mil and a predicted 4-day holiday of $3 (www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com....ry/comedy/)

Soooo Mae West comes into play once again because she shares this record with Fields. They appeared together in "My Little Chickadee," to dubious comedic benefit. Mae seemed very unwilling to accept Fields as a romantic counterpart, first of all. Secondly, the plot is clueless and Mae lacks fodder for her brand of lusty one-liners. Her lack of interest shows. I know about this, because I might just be Mae re-incarnated: Why bother putting effort into this movie if I'm not scoring some mega hot co-star to try and bone? (www.unicornmeat.com....omedy.html)

Will's story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on the Clinton campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as an idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women (www.boxofficetrailer.com....Maybe.html)

The network morning shows this year haven't always been tough questioners with the presidential candidates. But it bothered me on Wednesday when ABC's Good Morning America interviewed John McCain (the day before the New York Times unleashed its underbaked romantic hints-and-whispers story), and co-host Robin Roberts dragged out the old-age issue against McCain using late-night comedians to mock him. Can you imagine Hillary Clinton sitting still for that tactic? (newsbusters.org....ns-old-age)

For some people, the romantic comedy genre is there to be sneered at.It&s a lower art form subscribed to by the uneducated masses, the sameplot regurgitated through a word processor with names, dates andlocations changed: Girl meets boy, she&s feisty, he&s snobbish, theydon&t see eye to eye How oh how are they ever going to end uptogether by the end of the movie? ). Admittedly, I&m not the biggestadvocate of the ol& romcom, but this film falls into the watchable category of romantic comedy . Of course it&s phoney and sugar-coated. Ofcourse it has no resemblance to real life (us.imdb.com....ercomments)

The interracial romantic comedy Something New is not the usual alternative "chick flick" that studios rush out over Super Bowl weekend, several critics are suggesting. "I found myself unexpectedly moved," writes Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times , who rates the film with three stars and says in his concluding remarks that the film "delivers all the usual pleasures of a love story , and something more. The movie respects its subject and characters, and is more complex about race than we could possibly expect." Likewise Kyle Smith in the New York Post said that he found the movie "irresistibly warm and surprisingly realistic." Gene Seymour in Newsday praises it as "a romantic comedy with a lot on its mind. Indeed, it's one of the few romantic comedies to come out of Hollywood in recent years that actually has a mind and isn't ashamed to use it - especially on such challenging matters as race and class." Manohla Dargis in the New York Times gives it a less enthusiastic but nevertheless positive review, describing it as "pleasantly diverting," and adding, "There's something reliably agreeable about watching two pretty people go through the usual romantic motions, especially since Big Hollywood seems to have more or less given up on love, perhaps because it's also more or less given up on wome (us.imdb.com....01170/news)
