If Hollywood actually made films featuring black women, this would likely be the place they put it. The only new films to debut at #1 in the last decade have been Madea (2005 and 2006) and Aaliyah (Queen of the Damned ). Before that, the last new film to debut #1 was Jackie Chan 's Rumble in the Bronx (www.soulhonky.com/)

They hired former Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin to help them finish the remaining shows, and took a short rest before joining a summer tour with Metallica , Kid Rock, Powerman 5000, and System of a Down . (Silveria later returned amid rumors of leaving the band for a fashion career, but these stemmed from some modeling work he had done before his injury.) In the meantime, Fieldy released a gangsta rap album and Davis scored the film Queen of the Damned , but at the end of 2001 the band reunited as a unit and entered the studio. A few shows with Static-X helped iron the wrinkles out of the new material, and by the next summer they had Untouchables ready for release. Korn did a run of Ozzfest dates in support, and the album was another smash hit. The self-produced Take a Look in the Mirror arrived in 2003. Billed by the band as a reconsideration of their sound, the album was accompanied by a tour of smaller venues called "Back to Basics." In 2005, Welch left the band, evidently due to his newfound Christian fait (www.mp3.com....n/summary/)

The supporting cast includes Paul McGann (David), Christian Manon (Mael),Claudia Black (Pandora), Bruce Spence (Khayman), Matthew Newton (Armand),Tiriel Mora (Roger) and Megan Dorman (Maudy). With a much stronger storythan the usual offerings of this particular genre, Anne Rice fans, especially, will be pleased with `Queen of the Damned ,' a film nicelycrafted and delivered by director Rymer and his engaging cast. By focusingattention on the drama of the story- and the way it's presented- ratherthan concentrating on merely providing some cheap thrills, Rymer hassucceeded in turning out a true horror film that is definitely a cut above, and one that just may whet your appetite for more of the same. And that'sthe magic of the movies. I rate this one 7/10 (us.imdb.com/title/tt0238546/)
"Queen of the Damned " builds on that research. Lestat's metal music has caused quite a bit of mayhem - but not this much before: Akasha, Egyptian queen and mother of all vampires , has reawoken from her comalike sleep. The lesser vampires are having strange dreams, some are being murdered by the ruthless queen. Apparently she wants to kill all men. What is more, Akasha has taken a shine to the roguish Lestat himself (www.amazon.com....3/am841-20)
Rice does stumble in "Tales of the Body Thief," which seems like too flimsy a plot for Lestat and Co., has an unnecessary nun romance , and which has some very gross moments. However, it does give a stunning look at how a vampire would see the everyday life of a human - all the problems, discomforts, annoyances and loneliness that we all ignore because we're used to it. It's a more personal story than the epic "Queen of the Damned ," which deals with all of vampirekind all through history. (In one book! (www.amazon.com....3/am841-20)
This is a box set of the first four books of Anne Rice's popular Vampire Chronicles series. Her works are immensely popular and have spawned 1 1/2 movies (calling Queen Of The Damned even half a movie is being extremely generous!) and many many sequels. I picked up this box set after being told by numerous people that the first four were worth reading and I was really pleaseatly surprised. (I've heard that the series really goes downhill fast after the The Tail Of The Body Thief (www.amazon.com....3/am841-20)
Suggesting that Queen of the Damned will enjoy only a brief reign as the box office leader, final weekend figures released Monday turned out to be significantly below Warner Bros.' estimates - $14.75 million versus the predicted $15.2 million. (Since weekend predictions, issued on Sunday afternoons, are based on actual figures for Friday and Saturday and an estimate for Sunday, the final result indicates that the movie earned 14 percent less than expected on Sunday.) Although some writers attributed the relatively strong debut of the film to a morbid interest in seeing costar Aaliyah , who died in a plane crash shortly after completing work on the movie, Exhibitor Relations chief Paul Dergarabedian told today's Los Angeles Times , "Certainly, there was heightened interest in the film due to her appearance in the film, but I don't think that is why it was No. 1. . Horror films, in general, are solid draws at the box office. They are really review-proof." The only other new film to open wide, Universal's Dragonfly , starring Kevin Costner , took in a disappointing $1 (us.imdb.com....00243/news)

Damned by critics, Queen of the Damned reigned supreme at the box office over the weekend, debuting as the top ticket seller with an estimated $15.2 million. Most analysts had predicted the film's ascent to the top spot, particularly given the draw of star Aaliyah , who died in a plane crash in August. Moreover, as Exhibitor Relations chief Paul Dergarabedian observed in an interview with Bloomberg News, "Horror films tend to open pretty well." Dergarabedian also noted that the box office did not seem to be affected by the strong draw of the Winter Olympic telecasts. "The Olympics have not really had a big impact on the box office," he told the wire service. "There's a lot of interest in the Oscar nominees and a lot of new films out. They are not doing blockbuster business, but they have been solid." He particularly noted that Denzel Washington 's Oscar nomination for Training Day probably boosted the audience for his current film, John Q , which dropped to second place with about $12.5 million, bringing its two-week total to $3 (us.imdb.com....00243/news)

Silencing analysts who warned against oversaturating the box office with war films, Paramount's We Were Soldiers , starring Mel Gibson , took in an estimated $20.2 million at the box office in its debut this weekend, far above the $12.5 million taken in by the No. 2 film, Miramax/Working Title's 40 Days and 40 Nights , starring Josh Hartnett . Soldiers was the fourth war film to open in recent weeks, after Hart's War , Black Hawk Down and Behind Enemy Lines .) Last weekend's box-office leader, Warner Bros.' Queen of the Damned , plunged 80 percent to land in sixth place with just $5.8 million. On the other hand, New Line's John Q . held up nicely, off only 33 percent to $8.4 million in its third weekend, good enough for third place. The top 12 films took in an estimated $81.1 million, up 8 percent over the comparable weekend a year ago. (www.imdb.com....01326/news)

Korn recorded a performance for MTV Unplugged at MTV's studios in New York 's Times Square last week, and were joined by members of The Cure , Evanescence , and Oingo Boingo. It was the first taping of the show since Alicia Keys recorded a set for the show in 2005. The alt-metal rockers played a 15-song set, according to MTV News, with dreadlocked former Oingo Boingo keyboardist Richard Gibbs, who had collaborated previously with Korn frontman Jonathan Davis on the songs and score for the 2002 film Queen of the Damned , serving as musical director (www.mp3.com..../7706.html)
Oliver Reed passed away before Gladiator was finished; Ridley Scott used computer technology to insert Reed into certain scenes. The cast are very talented, especially Freya Stafford and Megan Dorman whoplay Basia Lem and Katherine Ingram. Both are very talented, and shouldgetsome more work soon. (I can't wait for Queen of the Damned , a movie comingout with Dorman)Charlie Clausen, Aaron, and Meroani Vuki, Jade, are very likable and quitegood actors too, though not as talented as Freya or Megan. All the other actors, do not stand out as much as the other, but areenjoyable to watch. The onl bad actors I felt where the ones that leftearlier on: Nadia Townsend (Claire) and Gareth Yuen (Loc). (us.imdb.com/title/tt0281448/)
