I felt that we were bound together by the ideology and theology of love and equality. My day at the Ebenezer Church was life changing. Peace , Susan Mul (www.tripadvisor.com....orgia.html)

Ebenezer Baptist Church is a beautiful church. The worship services there are so spiritual and very uplifting. From the moment you walk in the doors of the church, you feel so welcomed. As a whole, Atlanta is a very nice city to visit. There is so much history there. This is the type of place that you will want to. mor (www.tripadvisor.com....orgia.html)

In 2000 a study of the church building resulted in " Ebenezer Baptist Church, Historic Structure Report " being issued by the National Park Service. This reports serves as a guideline for the restoration of the church (www.nps.gov....church.htm)

My husband and myself had just completed our week in Mississippi, working with many people on a Disaster Response Project. We decided to travel home to PA through Atlanta because we have never been there and because we wanted to see the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Social Change, the gravesite, the eternal flame and the Ebenezer Church and the Visitor 's Center. We were so blessed, so inspired and uplifted. Peace and justice work is neverending and will not be complete as long as there is injustice in any community. There was an interracial youth choir singing in the Ebenezer Church the day we were there. Isn't that the way it is supposed to be? We were all made in the image of God, so there is something divine in all of us. Racism is still, in America , the number one issue that we don't deal with well at all. Hate groups are growing in many places in America and we all know there are more hate groups in PA than in Georgia . That is appalling, deplorable and frightening. On the day that we were in the Ebenezer Church, I felt surrounded by lov (www.tripadvisor.com....orgia.html)

My vision, as a teacher, is to help people enter into dialogue and embrace diversity and walk in other's shoes. I have also experienced singing in an interracial gospel choir. There is a choir in Philadelphia called the Philadelphia Gospel Seminar's Choir and one of the missions of this choir is also to further unity among all people and to break down barriers. To hear the youth choir at the Ebenezer Church made me believe again that one person, one voice can make a difference in many people's lives. One positive group of people like that can inspire others to be the change you wish to see in the world. Those are, of course, the words of Gandhi, but they are words for us all. Can I change the world, make it a better place ? I think so! I think you can too! We need to keep marching, talking, praying, singing, preaching, dancing and sitting-in for justice! We are many colors. We are many faiths. We are many. We can clace in a nation that possesses the wealth and power that America does. I felt that I was sitting among my brothers and sisters that day in the Ebenezer Chur (www.tripadvisor.com....orgia.html)

Throughout its long history, Ebenezer Baptist Church has been a spiritual home to many citizens of the "Sweet Auburn" community. Its most famous member, Martin Luther King, Jr., was baptized as a child in the church. After giving a trial sermon to the congregation at Ebenezer at the age of 19 Martin was ordained as a minister. In 1960 Dr. King, Jr. became a co-pastor of Ebenezer with his father, "Daddy" King. He remained in that position until his death in 1968. As a final farewell to his spiritual home Dr. King, Jr.'s funeral was held in the churc (www.nps.gov....church.htm)

Phase I included design and installation of major systems including, electrical, heating and air conditioning, and fire suppression. Structural repairs were made to the roof system and the historic exterior Ebenezer sign was repaired and lit for the first time since 1990. A chair lift was installed to provide accessibility to the sanctuary. The funding for Phase I involved a private and public partnership and cost $1,885,000 (www.nps.gov....church.htm)

Little is known about Gerald Edwards (pictured right seated) he grew up in Guernsey, attended the States Intermediate School, attended Bristol University, and worked as a teacher and civil servant. He showed considerable promise as a writer although he destroyed much of his work. He longed to return to his native Guernsey, but had been cheated out of his inheritance through his father's second marriage so on his retirement he settled in Dorset the closest part of England to Guernsey. It was there during the 1970s that he met the young Edward Chaney who encouraged him to complete The Book of Ebenezer Le Page (www.guernsey-so....enezer.htm)
