Mark "Spoonman" Petrakis came to San Francisco to start a circus Jolly Wally's Wonder Follies. He was an actor for many years, playing leading roles at New York 's Public Theater and LaMama ETC, Chicago 's Steppenwolf, Seattle Rep, L.A.Theater Center and Berkeley Rep, also serving tours of duty as a writer, director, composer and set designer. The midway games are fun for kids (though, as others have noted, it's not necessary to stay at Circus Circus to partake) and the circus acts that take place at regular intervals in the midway are fun for adults and kids (my fave is the Imperial Acrobats of China). I stayed at Circus Circus only because the convention I was going to had recommended it. What a mistake. The rooms are older, needs major renovation. The room was hot since the a/c is automatically controlled and shuts off at night and you only get a fan to circulate the increasingly warm air. We visited the property on our trip to Lido Beach in Sarasota. All of the buildings are on one piece of property the house, the circus museum, the art museum, and the Tibbals miniature circus building.
