John Saxon is a name instantly recognizable to the cult film fanatic. It's easy to see why when you take a stroll through his filmography. He's doing television work nowadays, acting in shows like "CSI" and Showtime 's "Masters of Horror" series, but you must look back to the 1970s and 1980s to understand his real claim to fame. Saxon starred, or co-starred, in many of the most memorable drive in movies of all time. Most folks recognize him from "Enter the Dragon ," the picture that turned Bruce Lee into a huge cult star. That's only the beginning for the discerning exploitation fan, however. Saxon also turned in a memorable performance in Wes Craven 's "A Nightmare on Elm Street ," where he played the police officer father of hapless Heather Langenkamp . I can go on and on. He starred in Antonio Margheriti 's cannibal classic "Cannibal Apocalypse ," Bob Clark 's seminal 1974 slasher flick "Black Christmas," and Dario Argento 's "Tenebre". He even appeared in a fair amount of pure schlock, stuff like Roger Corman 's Star Wars knockoff "Battle Beyond the Stars " and Umberto Lenzi 's tepid giallo "Nightmare Beach (www.amazon.com....ev_manlink)

Green Cine This site doesn't carry hardcore per se, but they carry every wacko retro sexploitation film you've never heard of, and they're total nerdy film geeks that run their small DVD rental biz out of good old San Francisco . If you love cheezy sleaze titles that sound like Revenge of the Cannibal Cheerleaders or Zombie Apocalypse of the Lesbian Vampires , or any Roger Corman films, this is ground zero for cult nudie horror flicks that most mainstream rental places woudn't touch with a ten-foot pole. But that's not all, they also carry all kinds of foreign, independent, soft core (some Radley Metzger) and offbeat theater releases. And all their profits go to various film foundations. Great resource for x-rated Tinto Brass films (www.tinynibbles....links.html)

The builder of heaven has not so ill constructed his creature as that the religion, that is, the public nature, should fall out: the public and the private element, like north and south, like inside and outside, like centrifugal and centripetal, adhere to every soul, and cannot be subdued, except the soul is dissipated. God builds his temple in the heart on the ruins of churches and religions. 4 In the last chapters, we treated some particulars of the question of culture. But the whole state of man is a state of culture; and its flowering and completion may be described as Religion, or Worship There is always some religion, some hope and fear extended into the invisible, from the blind boding which nails a horseshoe to the mast or the threshold , up to the song of the Elders in the Apocalypse. But the religion cannot rise above the state of the votary. Heaven always bears some proportion to earth. The god of the cannibals will be a cannibal, of the crusaders a crusader, and of the merchants a merchan (www.bartleby.com/5/117.html)

I'm a huge fan of Italian director Antonio Margheriti , aka Anthony M. Dawson, even though I haven't seen very many of his films. How can this be? Because the ones I have seen revel in low budget schlocky glory. Margheriti is responsible for such classics as "Alien From the Deep ," "Seven Deaths in the Cat's Eye," and "Killer Fish." He's also the man who brought us several highly entertaining shoot 'em up action/war films, films like "Indio," "Indio 2," "Tiger Joe," "The Last Hunter," "The Hunters of the Golden Cobra," and "Ark of the Sun God." If you need any additional evidence pointing to Dawson's relevancy in the realm of low budget cult classics, he directed the catastrophic "Yor, the Hunter from the Future." If you've seen this disaster , you know how important Margheriti is to lovers of cheese cinema! I'm dying to see all of these films-and a few others-arrive on DVD. Until then, I'm contenting myself with the precious few of this director's earlier movies that have come out, or are soon to come out, on disc: "Castle of Blood," "The Virgin of Nuremberg ," and "Cannibal Apocalypse " among th (www.amazon.com....ev_manlink)

The movie explains that the cannibalism we see on display comes from a virus, which is an extraordinarily goofy explanation but one that Margheriti milks for all its worth. The director, along with scriptwriter Dardano Sacchetti, seem to be saying that violence is a contagious disease that we can cure if only we have the right tools. Sure. Whatever. I, and my fellow gore fans, could care less about theories on the nature of violence. We're watching "Cannibal Apocalypse " in order to witness bloody carnage, and thankfully the movie delivers in spades. It's not as cringe worthy as "Cannibal Holocaust " or the other man eats man flicks that came out at the same time, but it comes close with several scenes sure to leave a greasy residue on the viewer's mind. A trio of examples includes a devastating shotgun killing, a scene where the principals convert some dolt's leg into beef jerky, and a nice flamethrower sequence. Nice! That's not all we get here, though. Expect to see plenty of flesh tearing fun as the cannibals cruise the streets and alleys of Atlant (www.amazon.com....ev_manlink)

This story and more is part of the excellent analog track by Herzog, covering all of the hardcore production that overwhelms the more famousCoppola problems making Apocalypse Now . Herzog didn't have millions ofdollars, rather 300 grand, had to live on the rafts for months and deal withthe jungle and Kinski. But he never bitches you do what you have to do,and the film is never compromised, from the costumes, the beautiful reallocations and the boat hanging in the tree to the eerie group of smallmonkeys at the end (which Herzog had to steal, even though he paid forthem). The analog track is constant (many now seem to take pauses to watchthe film) with background on the idea, actors, filming and philosophies.Yes, that is a real mummy in the cannibal camp, for which Herzog's brotherhad to buy a passenger ticket for the plane ride over (us.imdb.com....ercomments)

Unfortunately we also with technological advance found more efficient ways to kill each other, to which I will return later, also we have such self serving leeches and generally nasty selfish pricks as Giorgio who is played by John Steiner who played also Christiano who whispered the word "spy" in Tenebrae . Anyhow for Giorgio everything is property and property is everything, he is after all a businessman and business is his business and not people. Giorgio does not much like people. He does not especially think much of his wife Silvia played by Elizabeth Turner who he treats as disposable. He has sex with her when he feels like and beats her a lot. Did I mention Elizabeth had her last role in the wonderful Cannibal Apocalypse ? NO? Okay well guess what. that is what she did (bloodyitaliana.blogspot.com/)

We shall begin in 2097, two decades after the nuclear apocalypse that annihilated the United States. Tex Kennedy orphan, hero-in-waiting and underground bunker resident has been parented solely by the inspirational radio broadcasts of King Remington. When Remington's final broadcast commands any brave soul listening to bring his nephew Benjamin to power, Tex sets out to infiltrate the notoriously dangerous "Threshold of Hell". By seizing control of the Gamma Radio 12,000X (a massive radio tower at the center of the Threshold ), Tex aims to use Benjamin's voice to reach out and unite the remaining Americans still living underground . Unfortunately, the only help he's going to get on this quest through the wasteland of New America will have to come from his two robot companions, Yul and Quincy, and a mythical young woman known through legend as "Cannibal Sue".
