We stayed for 2 nights at Il Barocco . Downstairs room was dark and ugly. With heavy carved furniture and airless. Our room also stank of cheap disinfectant. We had made it clear by phone and email that we had a dog and we booked dinner. It turns out that the Ristorante Il Barocco is actually a seperate business, a little. more (www.tripadvisor.com....icily.html)

My brother and I recently spent four nights at Hotel Barocco and have nothing but high praise for this wonderful hotel. The staff was extremely helpful and very pleasant. The location was terrific . close enough to walk to all major sights. The only time we took the Metro was to go to the Vatican . otherwise we wore out. more (rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com....Lazio.html)

For service, setting, and amenities the Hotel Barocco is outstanding. Our room, #19, a suite on the first floor overlooking la Fontana Tritone in Piazza Barberini, was spacious, immaculate, well furnished, and quiet in spite of the traffic around the piazza. The location of the Barocco was central to all the Roman sights we planned to visit. The restaurants in the surrounding neighborhoods, recommended by the hotel concierges, were wonderful without exception. The breakfast buffet was varied and delicious. But, the outstanding feature of the hotel, alluded to above, was the knowledge, efficiency, and friendliness of each concierge, no matter who was on duty. For first time visitors to Rome, as we were, they were indispensable. They were the key to our enjoyment in Rome (rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com....Lazio.html)

Barocco is an Italian word (no surprise, as most people use musical terms in Italian except the Germans and the French , who prefer their own language in musical terms on compositions but that's another story and starts with Wagner!). Barocco is not the name of a piece, but rather a style designation (such as "alla marziale" = "in a martial style") that means "in the Baroque style" (Baroque period composers are Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Lully; the music is filled with ornaments, the French music greatly more so than the Baroque literature of other countries.) I'm not pulling up any Rossini in Baroque style. My guess is that you have two things intertwined. A Rossini piece probably means you played an opera overture ("Thieving Magpie" is a popular one). That it was "alla Barocco " implies that you played something by a composer who writes [at least some pieces] in a Baroque-like style. Resphigi and Hindemith, who was German, come to mind. That's about the best I can do for you. Suggest you contact the band teacher at the high school in your area with the best band (which implies the best teacher!) and as (en.allexperts.com....ossini.htm)

Religious life is in general in a flourishing condition; there are numerous religious associations and brotherhoods. The Piusverein, with its headquarters at Linz, has for its special object the encouragement of the Catholic press. The most important church in the diocese is the new Gothic cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, built from the plans of the Cologne architect, Vincenz Statz. It was begun in 1862 and consecrated in 1905; the tower, 443 feet high, was finished in 1902. The old cathedral, originally the church of the Jesuits, was built in the Barocco style between 1669 and 1682. There are several old collegiate churches (St. Florian, Kremsmünster, Mondsee, Lambach, Garsten, Reichersberg, Wilhering, etc.), originally built in the Romanesque period and nearly all rebuilt in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in the Barocco style. The most important churches in the Barocco style of architecture are the collegiate churches of St. Florian (1636-1745), and of Baumgartenberg (rebuilt 1684-1718 (www.rootsweb.com..../Linz.html)

The birth of a printed poetry is a sign of the high level of the development ofnational culture. Here we account the stages of elevation of the Old Belarusian Poetryduring the early periods of Renaissanse and Barocco . Trucevic^, F. Ievlevic^ and others. Much of the oldbelarusian poetry was written in Latin creating NewLatin Belarusian Poetry . Old Belarusian, Polish, Chech and Bulgarian(Church-Slavic) were other languages of poetical expression in XVI-XVII c. Belarus .Several literary societies emerged in XVI-XVII c. The piece you played may have been "Alla Barocco " by Caesar Giovannini. I played it in high school back in the early 70's and the piece is still in the repetior of many concert bands. Giovannini, despite the name, was born in Chicago and is still alive. There is an MP3 recording of the piece on www.soundclick.com by Goose Creek Bands. (A school district in Texas.) I am not aware of any CD recording of it. (I have looked for one.

Etimologico. ), and Apollon musagète (all conducted by Stravinsky). In 1938 the company broke with the Met. over differences of artistic vision and it remained inactive for three years, although during the period 1936-9 Kirstein organized the smaller group Ballet Caravan as a showcase for American choreography, which involved some of AB's dancers. In 1941 the company was reassembled at the invitation of Nelson A. Rockefeller and amalgamated with Ballet Caravan under the title American Ballet Caravan for a five-month tour of S. America. Balanchine was artistic director and the dancers included Caccialanza, L. Christensen, Dollar, Bolender, Magallanes, and Taras. Its repertory featured Ballet Imperial , Concerto Barocco , Billy the Kid , The Filling Station , and Apollon musagète . The company was closed down after the tour but Kirstein and Balanchine went on to found Ballet Society in 1946, which in 1948 evolved into New York City Ballet (www.answers.com....can-ballet)

Balanchine's more than 200 dance works include Serenade (1934), Concerto Barocco (1941), Symphony in C (1947), Bourrée Fantasque (1949), Agon (1957), Seven Deadly Sins (1958), Don Quixote (1965), and Kammermusik No. 2 (1978). He choreographed for films, operas, and musicals as well, creating Slaughter on Tenth Avenue (1968), his most famous theatrical piece, for the musical On Your Toes. As the major figure in mid-20th-century ballet, Balanchine established both a new Russian-American dance culture and the dynamic, inventive modern style of classical American ballet, while freeing ballet from the symmetrical and ornamental forms that had dominated since the 19th cent. Most of his works emphasize formalist patterns of pure movement rather than plot, stressing a spare and rigorous technique-based dance aesthetic. He never lost his creative instincts and continually experimented with new forms and movements, as seen in his controversial 1980 work, Schumann's Davidsbundlertanze. In 1987, after his death, two former associates founded the Balanchine Trust, an organization that maintains the integrity of his ballets by overseeing their leasing and stagin (www.encyclopedia.com....anchi.html)

It57;s time for a theme podcast! Podcast No. 15 features some nice French cinema music that makes you want to know more about the films they come from. Michel Magne gets two chances with spy music from OSS 117 and Fantomas . Then, there57;s Georges Garvarentz on the soft drugs and Michel Legrand with some of his groovy strings. To top if off, a soft-spoken classic by Pierre Barouh from A man and a woman and Philippe Clay from the film Barocco . I realise the poster is misleading, but I do recommened Les Parapluies de Cherbourg to anyone who enjoys heavy colour contrasts, a good tear jerker and a young Catherine Deneuve (feeds.feedburner.com....FrancoGogo)

The young actor broke into both film and television in the mid-1960s by playing character roles that somewhat reflected his disreputable past parts with names like Le beatnik and Un hippie. In 1974, Depardieu was launched into popularity after starring in Bertrand Blier s Going Places , about two loafers pillaging their way across France . He went on to appear alongside Bulle Ogier in Maîtresse and Isabelle Adjani in Barocco , and collaborated again with Blier for the 1979 Academy Award®-winner for Best Foreign Language Film, Get Out Your Handkerchiefs .
