If you are serious about barb wire then this is the book for you. Hundreds of patents, illustrations, history, inventor lists, and a list of sources make this book a must for every barbed wire collecto (www.barbwiremuseum.com....antile.htm)
I57;m embarrassed to say that I have not seen the movie , but man was the book bold, grab-you-by-the-throat brutal, and brilliant. If there57;s an author who writes words that bore down on you like a freight train and cut like barb wire , it57;s Cormac McCarthy (www.stltoday.com....-land/feed)
Pamela Anderson of Ladysmith, British Columbia, Ca. Her acting career started with small parts in "Married with Children " and "Tool-Time-Girl." Her break came in her role as C.J. Parker in the popular "Baywatch " series. Her film credits include "The Taking of Beverly Hills", "Snapdragon ", and "Barb Wire (www.tnpsc.com....pamlee.htm)
"Whether we have a wall or a zone or a rickety fence or whatever, we must continue to have at least a strand or two of barb-wire to keep the institutions of religion from cozying up to the institutions of government," said James Dunn , a professor at Wake Forest University Divinity School. I've always enjoy Mark Dery's caustic cultural criticism. His pen's reservoir is filled with aqua regia and the nib is made from barb wire . Now he has a blog, called Shovelware. His latest entry, about the "Not One More Damn Dime" (NOMDD) boycott , is excellent. He let me know about it in an email message, in which he asked rhetorically, "Why, as a fellow traveler who heartily agrees that our ill-conceived adventure in nation-building has become a slaughterbench for army reservists and a recruitment tool for jihadis, do I find myself so wildly irritated by today's Not One More Damn Dime boycott ?" [T]he whole business reeks of bobo sanctimony and cultural elitism. Any member of the Adbusters-reading, Supersize Me-watching leisure class who honestly believes she can Stick It to the Man by keeping her dimes firmly in her hand-knitted Guatemalan rucksack, right beside her manically underlined copy of Chomsky's Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance, is unlikely to be seen rolling a 55-gallon drum of Miracle Whip out of Wal-Mart or rejoicing in fried offal at the local McDonald' (www.boingboing.net....1/16-week/)
The piece is tucked away upstairs, to the right of the collectionâs private library. To take it in, the viewer must use a ladder and bedding to climb over a rough wooden wall topped with barb wire . You descend to the ground by stepping down several platforms made from crates. Along each platform is an array of found objects from the streets of the megacity. First tools, then small toys, then watches and rusty jewelry, then piles of used shoes, then bundles of the red note daily La Prensa, a local paper famous for delighting in the blood and gore of crime and accident scenes. On the floor, footprints from previous visitors are visible in a thick layer of dirt. (danielhernandez.typepad.com....andez/art/)
About a year ago, I heard that the state/city was trying to sell the cemetery for a bus transit system. The phone number on the gate list the Hospital, which claims no knowledge of the cemetery. I am afraid the state/city has not given up on selling the cemetery. My great grandfather, the inventor and builder of a Civil war submarine is buried there. I am unable to visit his grave or get a marker on it. There are pictures of the cemtery at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans/charity.htm which shows the many small red yellow flags on 6 wires stuck in many spots in the cemetery. Barb wire was recently installed on top of the fence (www.savinggraves-us.org....harity.htm)
Although Lee had little to do with Mtley Cre after splitting, he agreed to take part in their 2001 tell-all autobiography, The Dirt. In addition to his musical output with the Cre and M.O.M., Lee has made guest appearances on albums by other artists Stuart Hamm - The Urge, Nine Inch Nails - Downward Spiral, Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe ), contributed a solo song, "Welcome to Planet Boom," to the soundtrack of then-wife Pamela Anderson 's 1996 movie, Barb Wire , and produced an album for the pre-Goldfinger project from John Feldmann and Simon Williams , the Electric Love Hogs . He parted ways with M.O.M. partner Tilo and began recording with members of Incubus and the Deftones. Through time, he eventually started recording songs featuring himself almost exclusively, and by the time it came to release the results, it was released as his first solo album. The CD, 2002's Never a Dull Moment, reflected his love of rap metal and electronica and featured little of the Motley Crue swagger he was famous fo (www.winamp.com..../Tommy-Lee)
Pam Anderson shows off a letter from fellow animal-rights activist Brigitte Bardot in Paris, while an opportunist Frenchman in background tries to, um, read. Meanwhile, the leader of the animal-privileges movement, Uno, the champ of this year's Westminster dog show , chows down on the winner's traditional lunch at Sardi's. And don't tell me Uno doesn't belong in Stargazing-Westminster was a hit on TV and he's a winner. Pam's last prize was a Razzie for Barb Wire in '96. (www.thestar.com....cle/304416)
The ground was still so hard that we would dig a while, pour water in the hole , let it set till after lunch or overnight, then finish the hole . After the holes were dug the fencing part went real smooth . Mr. Vickers seemed to have a real knack for this job and we learned some tricks from him that will help us on future projects. Let me stop here and say that, no, the Historical Society still can not afford to do fencing. The wire, post and gate were all paid for by family members. Most of the ones that worked to help put up the barb wire had no direct family members buried there. We had a great turnout of workers everyday we worked, Mr. Howard Teater, Bill lnez Russell, Ray Sue Clark her brother Bruner, Don Anna Vickers, her nephew, Junior , Tom Bell and also Charlie and myself. As I stated, this is an unfinished project. We still have to repair and reset the stones in the spring and do some weed control. We went ahead and placed our new Ferrell Cemetery sign with a nice crowd of visito (www.savinggraves-us.org....-2001.html)
" Otis came for us after school just a laughing and said "I heard you had a vistor". I was only 19 and Otis told Mr. Wilson she is rather young to handle your school. Mother went on to L.A. and we faced our long winter, which was not to easy for Otis and family. Spring came and Luella had a good garden. The sandy soil did grow good melons and water mellons. To keep the coyotes out, he stretched barb wire around the patch with the weeds holding it up now and then . They wont cross it. In spring he built a frame house. Up stairs to it. A school house was built in our district. LaReine went to school. Cow chips were used for fuel which we gathered. Mother returned from California and left in the Fall for Michigan. We thought we could do well, so Otis built a dance hall. He said he could use it later on for a barn. Well it made us money as well as entertainment. I helped to haul the lumber up from LeMayne. We soon had it ready. We hired two brothers who played for us, and also at Arthur hal (freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com....ghl/d1.htm)
There are basically three kinds of Jesus Franco films-the good Venusin Furs , 99 Women , Eugenie&), the bad Female Vampire , Tenderand Perverse Emanuelle ), and the ugly Barb-Wire Dolls , Ilsa theWicked Warden ). I&d put this one in the middle category-it&s not asdisgusting and potentially offensive as some of Franco&s films(particularly his mid-70&s WIP flicks), but it certainly isn&t verygood eithe (www.imdb.com/title/tt0218085/)
In 1996, Anderson then capitalized on her fame °13; and her looks °13; by starring in the B-movie action-fest Barb Wire . In 1998, she then returned to television following a two-year absence with the syndicated show V.I.P , where she starred as Valerie Irons, the head of a beautiful, all-female security force. (Time will tell on that one, mark our words.) (stars.ign.com....782p1.html)
One of the most truly unique places I have visited is The Historical Museum Of Barbed Wire and Fencing Tools, otherwise called the Devil 's Rope Museum (for obvious reasons), in McLean, Texas . The museum is located in a town that looks like it was abandoned in the 1940's, and is really no more than a collection of white buildings amongst tumbleweed and dustclouds. Once I was inside, it was pretty groovy. They have bales, balls, yards (seemingly pasture-fuls) of barbed wire of every kind, and the history of how it was invented and used for farming and during wartime. The wartime exhibit is particularly neat! They have several different examples of art and other stuff created by barb wire enthusiasts. The museum is located off Old Historic Route 66, and is one of the campiest places you will ever go (www.infoplease.com....tion2.html)
Travel south on Rt.220 from Junction. About 1/4 of a mile make a left onto Trinity Rd. About 6 miles or so the road will divide, the left go to private property and the right will take you up Pancake Rd. When you get to the top of the hill, you will see a large open field with a barb-wire fence on your left.Location near the end of Trinity Rd (www.historichampshire.org....mound2.htm)
The British plan involved a series of attacks on the German lines around Givenchy, aimed at taking the pressure off the hard-pressed French , who were wasting thousands of lives trying to take Vimy Ridge. Ten British divisions were to launch this attack ; in the event, only three took part. This was the first major flaw in British strategy. The second was based on an assumption that three days of heavy shelling would not only demoralise the German front-line troops, but would also blast holes in the barb wire maze that protected the enemy trenches. There was a yet more serious flaw. The Germans were fully aware of every detail of the British assault plans. Was a captured officer carrying all these plans on him? We do not know. What we are certain of, however, is the fact that the rain of British shells largely wasted its violent energy on a network of half-empty trenches. The Germans bided their time, kept their machine guns oiled and bullet -filled, and prepared their own artillery for a stunning counter-barrag (www.iprom.co.uk....ition3.htm)
Each game places the same big-headed kitten in a different, perilous situation, and requires a different play mechanic to get it to safety. In Fura-Fura Neko you balance the kitten at the end of a stick with the mouse, trying to reach the end of a barb-wire maze with both the cat and your hand unhurt. In Ito-Neko you drag the mouse to draw a platform that will keep the cat out of the water. And the glorious Nekotama has you dropping giant cat heads into pachinko machines, trying to land one in every marked pip (www.gamesetwatch.com....8/06-week/)
There looks to be over 100 graves on the land with about 15 readable tombstones. A lot of graves are recognizable and marked with field stones. Other graves are not marked, but are identified by sunken outlines. The last person to be buried there was in the 1960s in an unmarked grave. The cemetery is in rather good shape and enclosed in a barb wire fence.ANDERSON, Etad Jones, d. 25 May 1928, a. 21y, w/o Eleret AndersonCLYDE, Harold, b. 2 Sep 1924, d. 4 Apr 1950, Tec5 637 Ord Ammo Co WW-IIELROD, Bozeman, b. 1 Apr 1890, d. 30 Dec 1909ELROD, Elbert, b. 8 Jun 1832, d. 14 Feb 1894ELROD, Gemima, b. 20 Sep 1891, d. 1 Mar 1918, w/o B. Casablanca , the 1942 classic starring Humphrey Bogart (Rick Blaine), Ingrid Bergman (Ilsa Lund), Paul Henreid ,(Victor Laszlo), Claude Rains (Captain Louis Renault), Peter Lorre (Ugarte). Casablanca is a classic, a one of a kind gem, a happy collection of talent and circumstance that happens once in a life time and not often enough in filmdom. Casablanca is the inspiration for spinoffs and wannabes. Some are themselves inspired. Woody Allen 's Play It Again, Sam (1972) was a "reverential homage" of great humor and merit. Lesser movies are likewise a nod to the original. They include Cabo Blanco of 1981 , Barb Wire 1996 and a Bugs Bunny short, Carrotblanca of 1995. The Hollywood fairy-tale was actually filmed during a time of US ties with Vichy France when President Roosevelt equivocated and vacillated between pro-Vichy or pro-Gaullist support (existentialistcowboy.blogspot.com....lanca.html)
The past reviews are inaccurate as much has changed. There is a dedicated surfing area to the North and South ends of the beach where swimming is not allowed unless you are surfing. This area was contained to the right of a barb wire fence last year but now extends about 100 feet beyond that. In between there is roughly a 1/4 mile of beach for swimming . There is free parking but it is a 3-4 block walk from them to the beach and there are only about 25 spots which are quickly taken early in the morning most days by semi-local surfers and usually you will find yourself driving to the pay parking. Two years ago the parking lot was free but it was renovated last year and now costs 1$ for locals and 10$ for those without Virginia Beach driver licenses. Far from the hidden treasure it once was Croatan was overrun with tourists when we went. There were roughly 300 people within 100 yards of the parking lot but it was a little less crowded farther down, most were surfers or Canadian tourists. A snarly local confronted us about standing in the water in the surfing area after nearly hitting us with his board then the lifeguard told us to move farther down the beac (www.tripadvisor.com....ginia.html)
Driving some 600 head of cattle and 50 horses, Samuel Addison Bishop, his wife, and several hired hands arrived in the Owens Valley on August 22, 1861 from Fort Tejón in the Tehacchapi Mountains. Along with Henry Vansickle, Charles Putnam, Allen Van Fleet, and the McGee brothers, Bishop was one of the very first white settlers in the valley. Remnants of the early settlers stone corrals and fences can still be seen nine miles north of Bishop along Highway 395 in Round Valley (barb wire fencing was not invented until 1873). Before Noel hit, at least 37 people had died in floods last month during a deluge that wrecked a town north of Port-au-Prince . The Dominican Republic is not as deforested but also suffers from severe flooding because of its steep mountains and people who live in simple homes along its rivers.U.S. Coast Guard crews deployed to Dominican Republic rescued several people Friday, including a man tangled in a barb-wire fence who was submerged up to his neck in water. Rescuers also saved a man in his 70s or 80s trapped in a second-story home with a 9-year-old child. Crews delivered 15,900 food rations, according to a statement released by the agency (asinthedaysofnoah.blogspot.com....chive.html)
It was then onto three days of live fire range work for the Camerons. A variety of ranges were employed, such as the Ditto Certification Range, where the shooter remains stationary while engaging pop up targets appearing at various distances across a wide field, to the McKie and Easy Gap Pairs Close Combat Courses, where a fire team moves down a lane and engage, close with, and destroy targets as they pop up. A bayonet assault course, grenade assault course, and a 9mm pistol range were also attended. But probably the most memorable was the Poorman Live Fire Combat Skills Development Range. The platoon moves forward in an extended line across a 100m, sand covered, obstacle course. They crawl over logs, under barb wire , and around exploding wells, with three M60 machine guns firing live rounds just above their heads only three to four feet above the ground.
