Said Scott Boras, who represents Rodriguez: Tom Hicks has indicated he will not consider a trade [involving Rodriguez] in the immediate future. I take that to mean Alex will be back with the Rangers next season. (www.bostondirtdogs.com....Dec_03.htm)

I didn't want to see the original after I read the script but I couldn't help myself and I loved it. It made me fall in love with the script even more. I have a new appreciation for what goes on backstage in the kitchen. The thesps hunger for the film grew when she heard who she would be working with. When I was onboard and I found out that Scott (Hicks, the director) loved the project it was a slamdunk. Then Aaron came on board and it was like ok, when are we filming? This is not at all intended as a backhanded compliment, but nothing much happens in No Reservations , which is to say there are no out-of-nowhere contrivances, no late-in-the-game plot twists, no will-they-or-wonât-they tensions. You know how this meal will end before the appetizerâs served. Director Scott Hicks (who, apparently tired of doling out heavy, mushy fare like Shine and Snow Falls on Cedars , is now content to serve up amuses bouche and the screenwriters have done away with some of the meatier moments from the original. Zoeâs less of a troubled child than her German counterpart, more timid than livid; Breslin is more sunset than Sunshine as the kid who resents her aunt for not being her mom but gets over it during a game of Monopoly (www.laweekly.com....ing/16901/)

A tightly wound and dynamic thriller that centers around a local newsreporter (Ethan Hawke ) who runs into an old childhood flame part friend(Youri Kudoh) during a murder trial in a small Washington town duringthe early 1950s. Director Scott Hicks , who made a name for himself andactor Geoffrey Rush in Shine , takes an interesting approach inputting plenty of flashbacks that go back to the late 1930s and itworks wonderfully. The film's best (and the saddest) flashback scene iswitnessing every Japanese person being hauled off in (trucks or trains)to special camps. The courtroom scenes are excellent and watching thedevoted prosecutor (James Rebhorn ) and an aging, but determined defenseattorney (Max von Sydow , who should have snatched a nod for BestSupporting Actor) make their cases is almost perfect . The film isbacked by Robert Richardson's terrific cinematography and composerJames Newton Howard's gentle and moving score. It's Stand By Me meets To Kill A Mockingbird (www.imdb.com/title/tt0120834/)

The evidence that links these two identities is strong but not conclusive. Clifton Hicks was quoted in a Newsweek article, Probing a Bloodbath, which focused primarily on the Haditha massacre . Of great interest is the name of the Newsweek reporters: Evan Thomas and Scott Johnson. Keep in mind that our TNR writer took the pseudonym Scott Thomas . Is this a coincidence (www.luoamerican.com....s/2007/07/)

It was interesting, the Yankee people were telling me that, I don't know if you guys saw Tom Hicks' press conference, but A-Rod's first. A-Rod asked if they could revisit the Red Sox and that Hicks said after the nights and days of dealing with them, he didn't even want to talk to them again. And it was interesting because the Yankee people were telling me that indeed, Scott Boras was trying to work the Red Sox angle, he was trying to do the same kind of deal, get Manny out of the equation, get a guy that makes $6-7 million and then work it down to the $16 million to make it all palatable, they would have traded Nomar for pitching or whatever and according to the Yankee front office, when Boras tried to do that deal (A-Rod to Boston , but getting Manny out of the equation, a week and a half ago), the player , because it's his client, that was going to go to Texas in exchange for A-Rod, was Jason Varitek, which, as they pointed out, they felt, the Yankee players and front office feel that Jason Varitek is the absolute soul of the Red Sox, but, and I found that interesting, I hadn't heard that, but the Rangers , Buck Showalter loves Varitek, but Hicks didn't want to deal with the Red Sox, according to him, and according to the Yankees (www.bostondirtdogs.com....Feb_04.htm)

Baseball America has started it's draft coverage . A couple of points of interest so far; Jim Callis has compiled his list of the top 30 players, (Aaron Hicks came in at #13) and there's an excellent article up about how MLB's slotting system may very well just collapse in on itself this year. I sincerely hope the Cardinals are paying attention to this; good citizenship may cost you this year, big time. If you're looking for intelligent, reasoned, solid draft coverage, you can do a whole lot worse than BA; they do as nice a job as anyone. However, if you want draft coverage that's more akin to something written by F. Scott Fitzgerald at the tail end of a week long absinthe bender, stick with the Baron, baby. Ain't nobody can do it like I can do it (www.vivaelbirdos.com....95510/7133)

Note 1. In Walter Scott s reminiscences he speaks of Burns as having the most eloquent, glowing, flashing, illuminated, dark-orbed eyes he ever beheld in a human face; and I think Elias Hicks s must have been like them. [ back ] Note 2. The true Christian religion, (such was the teaching of Elias Hicks,) consists neither in rites or Bibles or sermons or Sundays but in noiseless secret ecstasy and unremitted aspiration, in purity, good practical life, in charity to the poor and toleration to all. He said, A man may keep the Sabbath, may belong to a church and attend all the observances, have regular family prayer, keep a well-bound copy of the Hebrew Scriptures in a conspicuous place in his house, and yet not be truly religious person at all. E. believ d little in a church as organiz d even his own with houses, ministers, or with salaries, creeds, Sundays, saints, Bibles, holy festivals, c. But he believ d always in the universal church, in the soul of man, invisibly rapt, ever-waiting, ever-responding to universal truth (www.bartleby.co..../5021.html)

The joke in Toronto is how noted agent Jeff Moorad hoodwinked former Jays GM Gord Ash into the Shawn Green-Raul Mondesi deal, capped by Mondesi, who has never driven in 100 runs in a single season, getting a two year, $28 million extension that currently renders him untradeable. So when the Rangers , whose owner Tom Hicks is an employee of Scott Boras, played in Toronto this week, a GM called it "the Boras-Moorad playoffs. (sports.espn.go.com....77881.html)

Directed, written and edited by Kevin Smith , this comedy is the sequel to Clerks (1994). This time around we see what became of Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) a decade or so after the earlier movie. Also, Jay (Jason Mewes ) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith ) are still around. Dante and Randal still reside in New Jersey, but now they work in a burger joint called Mooby's, which is managed by Becky Scott (Rosario Dawson ). Dante is now engaged to be married and plans to move to Florida. (homevideo.about.com....M06a_2.htm)

This is a small, gentle film with lots of character development and periodatmosphere. The tech credits such as production design and cinematographyare superb and bring to life a time-1960-which, for some of us, was notthat long ago. The child-actors are perfectly cast, and Anthony Hopkinsasthe mysterious stranger gives one of his best, most-heartfeltperformances.(This guy could read USA Today weather forecasts aloud and make them soundlike Shakespeare.) While others may have taken a radically differentapproach to the material, emphasizing action and suspense, I thinkscreenwriter William Misery Goldman and director Scott Shine, SnowFalling on Cedars Hicks ultimately hit the right notes. I willinterestedin seeing if this decidedly low-key approach strikes a box office chordwithmoviegoers frazzled by the big, dumb summer action films. If there's anyfairness left in the world it will. It's that goo (us.imdb.com/title/tt0252501/)

A Christmas Carol has always been one of my favorite stories. I consideritto be the only perfect story ever written. I consider it wonderful thatastory written in 1843 by Charles Dickens could still be as important andtopical today as a newspaper headline. I feel that in this age of rampantcommercialism and trivilization of Christmas that Dicken's story is asimportant as ever. Hollywood has always tried to take advantage of ourloveof this wonderful book. There have been literally dozens and hundreds ofadaptations. On the radio, Scrooge was played by John and LionelBarrymore,on the stage he was played by Olivier. In the movies, he has been playedbySir Seymour Hicks, Reginald Owen, Alastair Sim , Albert Finney , Bill Murrayand Michael Caine and on television he has been played by Sterling Hayden ,James Whitmore , Jack Klugman , Walter Matthau , George C. Scott, HenryWinkler, Jack Elam and Patrick Stewart . Its ironic that the bestadaptationof Scrooge was done by a woman Susan Lucci in the classic 1995 Lifetimespecial Ebb (www.imdb.com/title/tt0381942/)

He made his mark in the early 1980s turning around Chicago 's legendary WLUP-FM, "the Loop." In 1988, entrepreneur Scott K. Ginsburg merged his radio company with the Loop's corporate parent to form Evergreen Media Corp. After the feds relaxed radio ownership rules in 1996, the company continued to merge with others, and de Castro eventually retired a multimillionaire in 2000 when Clear Channel Communications Inc. bought his company, AMFM. Along the way, de Castro "helped revolutionize radio's share of the ad pie," says Clear Channel board member Tom Hicks, by giving advertisers a package of stations targeting wide demographics (www.businessweek.com....785088.htm)

The Oregon list, which generated complaints from the Association of American Publishers, among others, for its lack of a transparent review processes (Brownstein & Hicks, 2005b), was created by a state panel dominated by researchers from the University of Oregon, who later became the leadership of the University of Oregon's RF technical assistance center. The University of Oregon was the home of one of the programs, Reading Mastery. Three of the University of Oregon researchers were authors of the Scott Foresman 2007 basal and two of them were authors of an earlier Scott Foresman remedial program. Three were members of a four-member external design team for Voyager (the fourth member was Sharon Vaughn, from the University of Texas, who also is extremely influential within Reading First see below) (susanohanian.org....tml?id=128)

So who made the cut this year? Rocker regulars like the Foo Fighters , Kid Rock, Scott Weiland, and Slash (his seventh year!) were back on the Beverly Hilton patio (also known as the smoking section), while hip-hop luminaries P. Diddy, Busta Rhymes , and Russell Simmons mingled inside. Actors and TV personalities were in the mix as well â Bill Maher, Ellen DeGeneres with girlfriend Portia de Rossi , Meg Ryan , and Jon Voight all made the dinner table rounds, while school buds Terrence Howard and Tara Reid (who knew?) caught up in a corner. Newcomers included chart-toppers like Rihanna, Natasha Bedingfield , and Akon and plenty of recently-christened Idols , among them season fiveâs Taylor Hicks, Chris Daughtry, and Katharine McPhee. And then there were the divas: Whitney, Mary J., and Christina Aguilera , who kicked off the two-hour-plus show with âCandy Man,â an appropriate choice, as there were many more treats to com (popwatch.ew.com....h/grammys/)

SCOTT HORTON: Heâs not the prosecutor. The prosecutors report to him. The defense counsel report to him. The judges report to him. The convening authority reports to him. He stands over this entire process. And he already has an established track record of intervening in these cases for political purposes, for political manipulation. The Wall Street Journal broke that story the third week of September when they showed how he had intervened to mastermind the plea bargain in the Hicks case, in which the prosecutors were excluded. Haynes was involved doing this, and he was involved doing it basically to make good on pledges that Vice President Cheney had made to the Australian prime minister, to help out his friend in Australia in connection with an election . So that already set the tone here (www.democracynow.org....guantanamo)
