The Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol did have all of the amenities technically required for it to be a 4 star, but, things could have been better. Having been forced to spend one night at the airport because every downtown hotel was booked for that night , looked on Hotwire for a hotel for our last night in Amsterdam and got a. more (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
You would never stay in this hotel (or even know it exists) unless you can't leave the customs zone in Schiphol Airport upon arrival to Amsterdam . That's at least how I ended up there (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
I required a hotel close to Schiphol airport as I was flying in a day prior to meeting up with my fiance. The Crowne Plaza was everything you could hope for in a solid airport hotel. (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
Don't get me wrong, the staff is friendly. and I didn't mind paying 5 euro for the ride back to the airport, it's just that the rooms are not anything to write home about. I've stayed at the Hilton Schiphol before, and it was in better condition albeit having smaller rooms (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
We recently were on our way to Provence and had a 20 hour layover in Amsterdam . I booked the Mercure Schiphol based upon the reviews here, and the fact that it was in the airport itself. I required a hotel close to Schiphol airport as I was flying in a day prior to meeting up with my fiance. This fixture from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol depicts a "fly target" embossed on the porcelain. The trend to add flies and other targets was pioneered and continues to be advanced by European airport facilities (www.urinal.net/schiphol/)
Mooi simpel toch (www.telegraaf.nl....ml?cid=rss)
Flight 42 returned to Amsterdam 's Schiphol Airport after several passengers displayed behavior of concern, Northwest Airlines said in a written statement. (www.cnn.com....topstories)
The flight, which originated in Northwest's main hub of Minneapolis -St. Paul International Airport in Minnesota a day earlier, returned to Schiphol around noon (6 a.m. ET), about half an hour after it had left the airport, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration said. The hotel is across Schiphol Airport but you have to pass the indoor walkwalk in the Airport which is a long walk. You go towrads the waorld trade center or signs to sheraton then go down at the very end of world trade center don't worry there is an elevator so you don't have to lug you luggage in the stairs) and across the elevator door is the hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful. The rooms were quite small and still old fashioned but liveable. Breakfast was really really good! lots of variety. We love their breakfast (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)

We had a 7 AM flight out the next morning and needed to be near check in. The idea of the hotel itself was great- just beyond customs doors. The hotel was clean and, although the room was small, the beds were very comfortable. (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
I look at the pictures from another post, and the room shown in those images are nothing like the room I was assigned room 244. The room I stayed in was a corner-room, quite large by European standards. The big problem was that the carpet looked like it has been mowed over by a tractor from the entrance to the room to the table at the corner, the carpet was so worn that you could see the floor beneath it. Since I was only spending one night transiting in Amsterdam , I didn't bother complaining. the walk to the un-manned train station (more like a platform on top of a bridge with ticket machines at the bottom) was a little dark and too quiet at night. If you don't like walking along the river with no one around you at night, I would suggest you get off at Schiphol airport station (one stop before Hoof Dorp) and call the hotel shuttle to pick you up. This hotel is very nice, clean and well run. The service is very good. This hotel suits best business travellers that are attending business in Hoofddorp and lay-overs from the airport if they like to stay calm and classy overnight. On the other hand the location is not good, it's 10 min + to walk to the train station and then 20 mins to Amsterdam Centraal station (3 stops inbetween are: Schiphol , Sloterdijk and Lelylaan). The train is not too frequent from Amsterdam Centraal to Hoofddorp and it stops running around midnight I think. Another minus is that the railway tracks are pretty close by the hotel so you hear the trains a little (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
This hotel is located conveniently 10 minutes from Schiphol for those who have early flights out the next day. The hotel staff are friendly and efficient, and the lobby is very welcoming in appearance. However.its pretty much downhill from there. The hotel truly caters to smokers and smoke is evident everywhere you go. Yes, there are non-smoking rooms, however, all public areas have very liberal smoking areas that drift into the non-smoking ones, and to get to any non-smoking rooms you must traverse through the blue haze of the rooms that are smoking (on almost any floor). It's gross. I managed to get a renovated room (beware ask for a renovated room or you'll really be sorry). The room had wood floors, and had a nice appearance, however, the beds were not that comfortable and beds were singles pushed together to make a double. Roll over and they'd split apart. No fun there. The person who wrote earlier about the crazy computer is right on the money. The computer is light high speed in my opinion, and the 10 Euro charge for 30 minutes is ridiculou (www.tripadvisor.com....lland.html)
There are two short-term parking lots (P1 and P2), both connected to the terminal and Schiphol Plaza by covered walkways, recommended for stays of up to 48 hours. Long-term parking is available in an open-air parking lot (P3), located 2.5 miles from the terminal . A free 24-hour shuttle bus links P3 with the terminal . There is also a luxury parking lot (P7). A VIP valet service is also available; reservations are required (tel: (0)900 7244 7465 (Netherlands only) or +31 (0)20 794 0800) (www.cheapflights.com..../schiphol/)
Yes, an airport can be unique, exciting and even cultural.I love the Amsterdam Airport, known as Schiphol . There's always something to do, buy, eat or see. And the people-watching is superb! Maybe that's because it's one of the world's busiest airports. Learn more about this international hub with a little unusual trivia (goamsterdam.about.com....hiphol.htm)
