Craftster member Rockstarcrafter posted before-and-after photos of her Hitchcock-inspired Psycho bathroom. It might not be for everyone, but it is definitely one way to go for crafty film buffs. Link (blog.craftzine.com....F307375954)

Alfred Hitchcock , who is known to have noshed on many a well-baked russet in his time, would no doubt smile upon this tuber-y remake of the famous Psycho shower scene. I believe this is what's meant by the expression bad carbs. Video Link. (Thanks, Bonnie Burton!) (www.boingboing.net....scene.html)

Since the manager/operator of the Greenbriar clearly has this particular subject down, let me ask (or settle) a question regarding the actress who briefly appears at the climax of the famed PSYCHO trailer featuring AH's tour of the film's sets. (greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com....ucing.html)

I do remember screams among my classmates. Being twenty-one, I thought Iād experienced my last (literal) jolt in a theatre upon seeing The Haunting back in 1963, but this one left all of us gasping. For once in our spoiler-contaminated lives, weād had no one to prepare (that is, ruin) us for the experience. I remember the filmās mechanical shark parked forlornly on a trailer as we crossed Universal's lot afterward. Just another prop awaiting storage, but quite a kick encountering such a thing only steps from having seen the movie. My digression here is just by way of imagining what a similar Psycho initiation might have been like - entering those magic portals (and what gorgeous marquees these are!) a mere callow on-the-cusp-of-the-sixties youth, knowing not that your senses are about to be assailed in a manner hitherto unknown among moviegoers. Reliable accounts say many screamed and fled for home. Police were summoned to calm disturbances. Iāve read of such incidents during first-run engagements of Frankenstein in 1931, but werenāt we past this by 1960? May-be, but was this only because thereād been no one like Hitchcock to take up the challenge of upending us anew? Psycho demonstrated it was still possible to shatter senses on a mass scal (greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com....ucing.html)
You could opt for a simplistic explanation and dismiss the new Hitchcock as merely an upscale William Castle , and indeed, he envisioned Psycho as a riposte to all those Hammer , AIP , and, yes, Bill Castle pics nipping at his Master Of Suspense heels. Summer of 1960ās release schedule is fun for the glimpse it affords of Psycho ās thriller competition. Bowing before and after Hitchcock was American-Internationalās House Of Usher (June), Universal/Hammerās Brides Of Dracula (July), and Columbiaās 13 Ghosts (August). Castle (shown at top shilling for 13 Ghosts with moppet "fan club") was a particular thorn in Hitchcockās side, as their marketing techniques often overlapped, and Hitchcock didnāt enjoy seeing his work confused with the likes of The Tingler and House On Haunted Hill (writer applicants to A.H. faced veto for having worked on previous Castle shows). Was Bill the Hitchcock doppelganger? - a cut-rate Bruno Anthony to the master ās Guy Haines? Comparisons would end at the ticket window, for neither Castle nor fellow shockmeisters ever realized anything approaching Psycho gross (greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com....ucing.html)
Feel better? Hitchcock forecast theatre owners happily startled all the way to the bank if only theyād comply with his absolute bar against late arrivals to Psycho . For first-run houses with definite start schedules (several shown here), this was well and good, and promotional budgets at metro venues allowed for stunt emphasis on Hitchcockās edict (Pinkerton guards, off-duty officers, etc.), but what of those grind situations down the line where double and triple billing prevailed and start times were uncertain at best? My guess is the policy was abandoned (or at least enforcement of same) after the first month or so of general release, though scrambling for prints of Psycho aroused the ire of circuit heads denied early run privileges. Here is a black-and-white picture for which Paramount could make up at least 100 more prints for "peanuts" and take advantage of the publicity the picture is now receiving , said Allied Theatreās North Central president. It could then be booked into the smaller towns and earn thousands of more dollars and help keep the small-town exhibitor alive (greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com....ucing.html)
The window display shown here combines oversized Italian photobustas (with color images better by far than anything Iāve encountered stateside), along with a revolving carousel of stills, lobby cards, and inserts. The tabletop standees are the inspired handiwork of an artist named Charles Van Fosson, who used to set up incredible displays of his work at the Syracuse and Columbus collector shows. The three-sheet is from the 1965 reissue of Psycho (Itās Back!), as is the one -sheet shown here. Our idea at the Greenbriar is to reproduce, as nearly as possible, the inside and out look of a theatre showing these movies when they were new, using as much of the original poster art and publicity material as can be gathered. This weekās show has been preceded with on-screen trailers, including the famous "Hitchcock tour" referred to earlier (wish I had those lost teasers!). More to come this weekend on Greenbriar Picture Showās Psycho screenings, plus Part Two on the various reissues, as well as the aborted network broadcast that was cancelled as the result of a real-life murder ā (greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com....ucing.html)
