SAS will offer a full plate of fun activities over the Spring Break, March 17 28. Come join the excitement with daily activities designed to stimulate the mind and tickle the funny bone. Weāll have arts & crafts, computer and homework labs, games and special field trips. Weāll visit Snow World, local cinemas and pools, a zoo and an aquarium in Cologne, take 4H trail hikes and cooking classes and watch the 4H Drama Clubās performance of the Lion King . We hope to offer courses in areas like photography, ballet, horseback riding ā anything with appeal to children and teens. Instructors are under contract and earn fees according to enrollment. Pte Sidney Reginald Matthews, 11266556, 4th Battalion The Kings Own Scottish Borderers. Died: 7th January 1945, age 22. Son of Ethel P. Stock of Pampisford. Buried in Brunssum War Cemetery, The Netherlands , Plot 5, 232-233, Register Netherlands 164. Whilst preparing to lay a minefield, two 350 mines exploded killing 25 Royal Engineers and 17 Scottish Borderers. At almost the same time, in the village of Tripsrath, there was a similar explosion which killed 4 more Borderers. Two days later all the men were buried in a large grave. After the war they were re-buried in individual graves. Sidney was buried in a double grave with Private R. Randle as there was difficulty with identification. Educated at Sawston Village College. History The history of US Army, NATO AFNORTH Battalion, dates back to 1951 with the activation of Allied Command Europe (ACE) and Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). The headquarters was temporarily based in Paris, France . In 1955, NATO reorganized into two strategic commands-Atlantic Command and Allied Command Europe . AFCENT was established in Fontainebleau, France , to serve as Allied Forces Headquarters for forces assigned to the central region of Europe . In July 1966, When the French military forces withdrew from NATO57;s integrated military structure, coordinated efforts with Belgian national authorities occurred to relocate SHAPE to Belgium .Later the Same year, AFCENT relocated to Brunssum , The Netherlands . Over the years, numerous structural and organizational changes have taken place. Most recently, in September 1999, NATO reorganized into two command regions-Allied Forces North and South-each with numerous sub-regional commands. During the same time Limburg closed its coal mine after finding large quantities of natural gas in Groningen . This subsequently led to the offer by the government for NATO to make use of the former Hendrik Mine infrastructure in Brunssum .
