This is about Greg and Warren going to find Count Blah inVegas. The highlight was the spoof of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas .This unfortunately, only features Greg the Bunny, Warren the ape, CountBlah, Seth Green , Sarah Silverman and Bob Gunton (We're missing EugeneLevy and Dottie Sunshine ), but who cares. This is much more adultthemed than the original show, for it includes the f word severaltimes, and has sex in it. Greg and Blah look different than they did,but they look better! I think that Douglas was shown a little more than Isabella was. Douglas had only been with the CIA for a short time and he d never been involved in anything like what happened to Anwar before and he had doubts about how effective the methods were. Jake Gyllenhaal was good in the part. Lee Mayer acted like he was Douglas s boss even though Lee was in the United States and Douglas was in North Africa. Lee was only shown a couple of times, so J.K. Simmons really didn t have a lot to do. Lee in turn reported to Corrine. I can t remember if her actual title was even given, but it was made very clear that she was high up in the CIA and had a lot of power. She made decisions that impacted many people and she didn t seem overly concerned about that. Meryl Streep also didn t have a lot to do in the movie, but she was very good. A big factor in this film working is a superb performance by Cruise whowas still, at this point, a clean cut poster boy and not the one Iwould have imagined taking this role! In the first of two performancesthat I believe he should have won an Oscar for (the other being SA forMagnolia), Cruise is very brave and very strong in the lead,convincingly taking us from a patriotic young boy to a injured soldierto a broken man to a man trying to put all the pieces together. Creditto both Cruise and the editor that this is done convincingly andwithout too many big jumps in character. Outside of Cruise though,nobody is really given a great deal of material to work with and alltheir characters are pretty two-dimensional and fleeting. If anythingthe support cast's main impact is to keep bringing well known faces tothe screen; these include Barry, Sedgwick, Whaley, Baldwin (timestwo!), Dale Dye, Berenger, LeGros, Bob Gunton , Vivica Fox, Mike Starr(and brother ), Dafoe, Sizemore, Eagle Eye Cherry, Wayne Knight and JohnC McGinle (us.imdb.com/title/tt0096969/)
David Strathairn does a wonderful job (no surprise) as the pedophile priest,a man totally in denial about the harm he has done and his own emotionalsickness. He has a brief, but telling scene near the end with the Monsignor(played by the reliably oily Bob Gunton ) where he defends his behavior asgiving the kids all of his and God's love and an antidote to parents whoprobably beat and abuse their kids.
