Trivia: Although Ann Blyth had done her own singing in most of her other movie roles, her trained soprano voice was judged too operatic for the role of Helen Morgan and pop singer Gogi Grant 's voice was dubbed in. Ironically, the real Helen Morgan 's light, high soprano voice was actually closer to Blyth's in quality than it was to Grant's. more (www.imdb.com/title/tt0050494/)

Farley talked warmly of others like Lauren Bacall (a N.Y. neighbor), Shirley Temple who was hospitable to them when they visited Prague where she was U.S. Ambassador, Jane Withers who showed up at Wednesday night's book signing and screening at the Aero of Strangers on a Train , Robert Walker who sadly died too young, Ann Blyth who Goldwyn tried to arrange a date with Farley, Arthur Miller who complimented Granger's performance in The Crucible (he said That is what I meant, to Marian Seldes whom the duo recently saw in Deuces with Angela Lansbury - Seldes claims Granger made me a star and she genuflects each time she sees me and Jimmy Stewart who was a true gentleman in the filming of Rope and modest in their meetings afterward. It is believed that Thomas and his brother John came to Virginia from Chester County, Penna. about the same time as we find a record of a suit entered June, 1752 against John Story and John Rutledge, traders of Chester County, for a note they gave to William Blyth of Lancaster County. Penna. It seems that Rutledge could not be found and John Story was held for the full amount of the note. Rutledge, no doubt , was located in Carolina. On April 20th, 1747, James Rutledge of Carolina entered suit against John Story and the record is made of Thomas as Administrator of John's estate. The writ reads 'Debt on Account 1740 to 7 large steers sold John Story in Carolina. I John Storey had two sons, Thomas and John, who lived in Virginia and Carolina. On August 20, 1778, a Dower was set off for Ann, widow, to Thomas Storey. Thomas Storey died about 1763: children by his wife Ann we (members.tripod.com...._p5-10.htm)

After Doris Day scored a success with Ruth Etting in Love Me or LeaveMe and Susan Hayward did well with both Jane Froman and Lillian Roth inWith a Song In My Heart and I&ll Cry Tomorrow, it was decided thatchanteuses of the past were good box office. So Ann Blyth gave it herbest effort in a whitewashed version of The Helen Morgan Story (www.imdb.com/title/tt0050494/)
Ann Blyth does a fine acting job. Why she wasn&t allowed to use her ownfine voice is a mystery since she actually sounds more like the realHelen Morgan than the dubbed Gogi Grant does. You&ll see that foryourself in Showboat. Personally I&d have told Jack Warner to take thepart and put it in an inconvenient place with that kind of arrangement (www.imdb.com/title/tt0050494/)
